Everyone I've heard talk about the upcoming HBO movie Recount about the aftermath of the 2000 election has loved it, including and not limited to Slate's John Dickerson who's the non-grumpy man on my beloved Slate Political Gabfest.
So I'm hotly, hotly anticipating this flick. It stars Laura Dern as Katherine Harris, and Tom Wilkinson as James Baker — Kevin Spacey, Ed Begley Jr. and Denis Leary star as well.

The pro-choice camp will see team pro-life's college football star and raise them one Olympic gold medal winner. In response to Focus on the Family's impending Super Bowl ad featuring college football star Tim Tebow's mom recounting her decision to ignore a doctor's recommendation for an abortion, Planned Parenthood has released its own video. Planned Parenthood drafted former college and NFL star Sean James and gold medalist Al Joyner and the pair makes it clear that they "respect Mrs. Tebow's decision against an abortion" but want their daughters to "live in a world where everyone's decisions are respected."

Nothing brings Americans together like the Super Bowl. Even if you hate football, you probably like some sort of junk food or beverage available at a Super Bowl party. Conversely, nothing divides Americans quite like abortion.

This picture is in just about every American history book and has become an iconic image of the Great Depression. And while it reminds me of The Grapes of Wrath, it was intended to let Depression-era Americans understand they were not alone. Maybe now it can tell our 2008 recession woes that throwing a party with dollar-store finds is not the same thing?

Prompted by World AIDS Day yesterday, an HIV positive man who goes by @ChrisMacDen on Twitter decided to share his story in 140 characters or less. After coming across the tweets, which recount emotions ranging from despair, anger, and even joy, I felt like I had a clearer idea of what it must be like to live with HIV. Here are some of the most enlightening tweets:
- when I found out, I was convinced that I was going to die immediately.

This past Sunday, a man known as "Sal9000" and his fiancé Nene Anegasaki vowed to stay together until death, or a power outage, do them part. You see, Sal9000's new wife Nene happens to be a video game character in the addictive Nintendo DS game Love Plus. A priest, live audience, MC, and friends of the happy couple were also present at the event, and the bride's virtual maid of honor even gave a speech.

Overt racism is not tolerated in most places, but fatism is flourishing in our society. Many overweight people say that the normal rules of decency and common courtesy don't seem to apply to them, and they're trying to organize a new rights movement.
In a news article yesterday, the BBC recounted the plight of an overweight train passenger who was beaten up by another commuter for taking up two seats.
