Where Do You Stand? Do His Manners Matter?

Though I do appreciate a chivalrous man, it's not cause to write someone off completely if he's not. But good manners, on the other hand, I’m a stickler about. No open mouth chewing or asking for something without a please and thank you, for me! OK, I might let some things slide a year into a relationship, but not while we're just dating. Is it the same for you? Where do you stand when it comes to a man’s manners? Could particularly terrible manners ever be a dealbreaker?

Dear Poll: Do You Ever Just Pretend to Listen?

If you’re even moderately well mannered, there’s probably been a time or two when you’ve listened to someone else recount a story or gripe over a personal issue that you had absolutely no interest in. In those moments, it’s often easier to just nod and smile then actually try to follow what they’re saying. It may not be the nicest thing to do, but it’s better than just completely ignoring someone so let me ask you: do you ever just pretend to listen?

Source

Turn On or Turn Off: Chivalry

Most women enjoy a man who has old-fashioned values - a man who opens the door for you, who pulls out your chair, even a man who helps you out of the car. But there are a other women who find chivalry to be a turn off. How, I don't know, but to each her own! I understand the notion of not "needing" a man to assist you in any way, but let's be real: We all could use a helping hand every once in a while. Since I'm so old-fashioned by nature, I find chivalrous men to be incredibly sexy - knowing how to treat a women speaks volumes in my book, but what about you? Is chivalry a turn on or a turn off?

Source

Turn On or Turn Off: Chivalry

 Turn on - Enough said!

Turn off - I find chivalry these days is a bit contrived.

Other - Please explain in the comments below.

Dear Quiz: Are You Too Nosy?

We all have our imperfections and for some people it's not knowing when to back off. I love good gossip as much as the next person, but I do know that when it comes to other people's personal lives, being too nosy only leads to trouble. So are you too nosy? Take this quick quiz to find out.

Source

If you come across two coworkers talking quietly in the office, what do you do?

 Completely ignore them.

Acknowlege that you know they're gossiping with a wink or a joke.

Get in on the conversation, or try to find out what it's about.

Do you hate not knowing what's going on in other people's lives?

Yes, I'm always aching to know their story.

Not at all; it's none of my concern.

Only with my really close friends.

Which best describes your approach if a friend says she's fine, but something is obviously wrong?

I keep asking, until she finally tells me.

I leave it at that. If she wasn't fine, she could say so.

I'll ask again, but if she still doesn't want to talk, I just let her know I'm here when she's ready.

Do you ever eavesdrop on conversations?

 Always

 Sometimes

 Never

You know one friend has a secret about another, but she says she can't tell you what it is. What do you do?

Pry and beg until she finally tells me.

Bring it up slyly with the friend whose secret it is and hope she spills.

Just wait for my friend to tell me.

The How-To Lounge: Dealing With an Ex

Having an ex can be incredibly hard, especially if one party still has feelings for the other, but let's face it, we all have a past so here are some tips on how to remain civil to each other after a break up. Click here to read more

Avoid one more time get togethers, drunk dialing, and especially break up sex. It will just confuse the relationship and prolong getting over each other.

When you break up, make sure nothing is left unsaid and get the closure you need, just make sure you don't use getting that closure as an excuse to see each other.

Even if your breakup wasn't amicable, try to avoid bad mouthing your ex. When one person starts slandering the other, he or she will no doubt rebut which could start a war.

When you unexpectedly run into an ex, handle it gracefully. Instead of acting like a high-schooler, be cordial, smile, say hello, and move on. Acting like a child or being overly fake and nice won't do any good either.

If you start dating someone before your ex, don't gloat. Rubbing your new relationship in the face of your ex will only hurt his or her feelings and make your relationship sound unjust.

After a break up it's easy to want to hold on for dear life, but if it's over, it's over so a clean break will be a more healthy way to sever your ties, no matter how badly it hurts. Good luck.

The How-To Lounge: Coping With Co-Workers You Dislike

I think it's impossible to like everyone, especially if you work for a large company with many employees, so here are some tips to help cope with your dislike of fellow co-workers.

Remember that it takes more energy to dislike someone than it does to just accept him or her for who they are

If you can, avoid the people you dislike. Don't sit next to them in meetings, don't eat lunch at the same time in the kitchen, etc.

Keep your relationship strictly work related and don't ask unnecessary questions. Be sure you have all the pertinent information before approaching a disliked colleague

If you can, stick to phone and e-mail correspondences versus face to face interaction

Kill them with kindness. Keep the relationship formal and distant so it doesn't invite personal banter

The best and most important tip I can offer is to keep in mind that you're at work to do your job, not to necessarily make best friends. Keep your focus on the job at hand and give it all you've got

If you need to get out some frustration, make sure you have a trusted colleague/friend to vent to, and remember, company e-mail is not private property!

Source

Do Tell: What Would you Do?

They were engaged in great conversation until he, gasp--- corrected her grammar!! Now it's one thing when your mother corrects your grammar, but ladies, do tell, what would your reaction be if you were on a date with a man that barely knew you and had the audacity to correct your grammar during flirtatious conversation?

From Barack-rolling to Paris Hilton for Prez, everyone got in on the joke.

Your favorite? The Sarah Palin prank call by two Canadian comedians pretending to be French President Nicholas Sarkozy. Coming in at a close second is the more fun-spirited Obama vs. McCain danceoff. Let's hope the humor stays this high quality over the next four years.

Do You Think Sarah Palin Has a Political Future?

I'm still trying to make sense of the bombshell Sarah Palin dropped over the weekend. At first I thought Palin must have her eyes set on political office outside of Alaska and doesn't want her duties as governor to hold her back. No longer stuck in Alaska, she'll be able to travel the country if she decides she wants to run for president. But after watching her nervously announce her resignation, the decision to quit didn't come off as a well thought-out plan to win the presidency in 2012. It seemed more like political suicide!

Prominent Republicans can't seem to agree what this means for her future either. Karl Rove said he was "a little perplexed" by Palin's move, but conservative pundit Bill Kristol thinks she made a good decision in a "world where people don't value years of experience in Washington, or even conceivably two terms as governor of Alaska." As for Rush Limbaugh, he said: "I think these people saying she's an instant target because she quit is just inside the beltway formulaic. And she's not that."

Do You Think Sarah Palin Has a Political Future?

Yes. This is part of her "unconventional" brand of politics that people like.

No. After that bizarre decision to quit, her career is finally over.

PoliWood Asks: Should Celebs Get Political?

Wag the Dog director Barry Levinson has tongues wagging at the Tribeca Film Festival with a new documentary called Poliwood, which premiered this weekend. As the name suggests, the film explores what happens when Hollywood celebrity gets all smooshed together with DC politics. Featuring celeb cameos from Spike Lee, Josh Lucas, Anne Hathaway, and more, the doc goes behind the scenes of the 2008 campaign, including the Republican and Democratic National Conventions.

The film is backed by the Creative Coalition, a nonprofit group of politically active actors and other artsy types, so don't expect a straight-up skewering. But Levinson isn't afraid to insert his own perspective on the potential confusion that PoliWood promotes. He says,

"Well, I think what happened is, you have this television screen, and everything has to go through that screen - and at a certain point, I don't think that we can tell the difference between the celebrity and the politician. They both have to entertain us in some fashion."

Do you think that celebrity and politics have become inextricably linked? Do you like it when celebs get political, or would you rather actors just stick to acting?

Source
