Dear Poll: Do You Pick Fights?

Fights are inevitable in relationships, but do you ever purposely pick them just to rock the boat? Sometimes making up after an argument can make you feel closer to your significant other and while I'm not advocating fighting, there's something to be said about make-up sex! I can admit that I'm guilty of picking a stupid argument from time to time, but what about you? Do you ever pick fights just because?

Rush Limbaugh Picks a Fight With Fellow Republicans

Earlier this week, Rush Limbaugh taunted the Republican leadership, contending that President Obama had more to fear from Rush, than from them. In an interview with Politico, Congressman Tom Price, who leads the Republican Study Committee, came back with some tough words for Rush:

It’s easy if you’re Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or even sometimes Newt Gingrich to stand back and throw bricks. You don’t have to try to do what’s best for your people and your party. You know you’re just on these talk shows and you’re living well and plus you stir up a bit of controversy and gin the base and that sort of that thing. But when it comes to true leadership, not that these people couldn’t be or wouldn’t be good leaders, they’re not in that position of John Boehner or Mitch McConnell.

Despite the back and forth between Republican hot shots, Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell believes that one big-named Republican's absence from the national stage will help the party in 2010. McConnell said yesterday: "We wish the president, President Bush well, but, frankly, we will not have to be carrying that sort of political burden that we carried the last two elections."

Awkward! Not Inviting a Friend's Husband to the Wedding

A friend told me about a majorly awkward wedding situation. She's getting married soon, but one of her good friends has a husband who is trouble with a capital "T." He's belligerent, provocative and just basically socially inept. Since this friend is having a small family gathering, she can't chance having this guy ruin her reception by pissing off her guests or picking fights.

What's she worried about? Oh, you know . . .chronic drug use, sudden outbursts, and a violent temper. I wouldn't have qualms about 86ing this guy from my wedding, but I imagine that would probably mean the friend wouldn't be able to come. I hear stories like this all the time - having to choose between two friends, one who hates the other one, family members who can't stand each other, and so on.

Have you ever had to face a similar quandary? What advice would you give to this bride-to-be?

Health Nominee Sebelius Has Bipartisan Pros and Cons

When it comes to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius's ability to be bipartisan, the diagnosis is mixed. As a Democratic governor of red-state Kansas, President Obama's pick for health and human services secretary has worked with a Republican-led legislature. But when it comes to policy, many conservatives will fight her stances like a deadly virus.

National pro-life groups have already expressed opposition of Sebelius, a choice some say is worse than your run-of-the-mill pro-choice nominee. In April 2007, she held an event with a reported late-term abortion provider and his clinic's staff at the governor's residence. Thus, pro-life advocates view Sebelius as an abortion-rights radical.

Besides abortion, Republicans, at least in Kansas, don't seem to agree with her healthcare plans either. She has failed to convince lawmakers to raise taxes on tobacco for increased coverage. During her two terms as governor, the rate of uninsured Kansans have grown seven times as fast in the sate compared to the national average. Still, Sebelius's healthcare expertise is considered one of her greatest assets.

Thirsty Koala Bear Gets TLC From Australian Firefighter

This must have totally made David Tree's day. Fighting fires during Australia's devastating heat wave, David suddenly spied a disoriented, thirsty Koala. (He keeps calling her a "he," but it was only later that they discovered her sex.) She seems wary at first, but as soon as he gives her some tasty H2O, she perks up and even extends her burnt little paw. He makes a joke about how once the Koala's thirst is slaked, it will probably rip him to shreds, but I bet he was just trying to hide how absolutely touched he was. Pick up a hanky - you're going to need one.

Group Therapy: How Do I Change?

I have been on and off with my current boyfriend for almost three years now. With the drama and fights we've been through, I'm surprised we're still together. I know the majority of it is my doing and I accept that. I am completely jealous - every guy I've been with has cheated on me numerous times. I know that's no excuse, but I always overreact when a girl texts, calls, or comments on my boyfriend's Facebook. I used to never be like this. I keep promising him I will change, but it always happens again. Even if he hooked up with a girl while we were broken up, I still get extremely upset and freak out.

I have a hard time letting the past go. Sometimes I just pick fights for no good reason at all. He has been there for me through thick and thin. I just find it so hard to put all of my trust in someone, because every time I do, I get let down. How do I work on my trust issues? How do I learn to trust him as well as others? He understands people cannot just change overnight, but I know one person can only take so much. He wants me to prove myself to him, and for us to stay friends until I change. I realize I have a lot of growing up and changing to do, but I have no idea where to start.

Both my parents have betrayed me many times and walked out on me in times of need. I am well aware that the way I was brought up affects who I am today, but I don't want to use that excuse anymore. I have done some counseling, but not much. I want to change, but I just need direction. I would really love some advice. I am at my wit's end and willing to do anything I can to get better.

I have promised to change things many times, but I just can't, even though I desperately want to. I'm afraid I've damaged things too much. Dear Wanting to Change Chanel,

The fact that you're aware that you're the cause of these arguments, yet you still start them, leads me to believe there is a whole lot more going on here. Are you rocking the boat to get attention from your boyfriend? Are you doing it because you like making up with him? If there really is no good reason, I advise you to try harder to put a stop to them because if you don't, you just might push him to the breaking point.

The only way he'll know how much you care is by you showing him and putting forth the effort to change. Tell him how much you love him, and do whatever you can to avoid those petty arguments. If you need help figuring out why you pick these fights, I suggest talking to a therapist, as there could be some deep-rooted issues going on that you're completely unaware of which are manifesting through these fights. Additionally, keep the lines of communication open with your boyfriend. The more you talk through any issues that come up, the less likely an argument will ensue. Breaking a pattern isn't easy, and it won't happen overnight, but hopefully he'll see that you're trying and in time, things will fall into place. Good luck.

Pastors Plan Political-Pulpit Blitz to Challenge IRS Ban

Conservative pastors aren't waiting for the IRS to pick a fight- they're taking the fight to the IRS by asserting their self-declared constitutional right to endorse candidates from the pulpit.

The Alliance Defense Fund, which calls itself the antithesis of the ACLU, has organized "Pulpit Freedom Sunday." On September 28, recruited religious leaders will give political sermons, endorsing or opposing politicians by name and in violation of their nonprofit status. The ADF hopes the IRS will then drag the clergy into federal court, presenting a chance to challenge on First Amendment grounds the tax-collectors' rule against political endorsements by tax-exempt houses of worship.

A different set of Christian and Jewish leaders have asked the IRS to step in before the ADF's plan to tell believers how to vote can happen. Two pastors in Ohio have asked pastors to use the weekend before the challenge to preach about the value of church-state separation.

McCain Set to Pick Palin as VP: According to sources close to the campaign, John McCain has picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate. A formal announcement is expected shortly at a campaign rally in Ohio. A 44-year-old mom, Palin flew overnight to an airport in Ohio near Dayton, thought to be awaiting her formal introduction.

Mexico's Court Upholds Abortion:
Mexico's Supreme Court has voted to uphold legal abortion in Mexico City, keeping the city one of only a few places in Latin America that allow abortion without limitations in the first trimester. The Roman Catholic church blasted the 8-3 decision announcing that they will redouble their fight against it.

Iraq Signs $3 Billion Oil Deal:
Iraq has signed a $3 billion oil deal with China, its first oil deal with a foreign country since 2003. The contract is pending approval by the Iraqi cabinet, but if passed work could begin on the oil field in a few months. The 22-year contract is a new version of a 1997 contract with China began under Saddam Hussein.
