Where Do You Stand: Asking About His Ex

Whenever I start a new relationship, I'm always curious about his ex-girlfriend. Although she's no longer competition per se, I think knowing about the person he dated before me has the ability to be very telling. I'll admit that I've been known to ask for too much information, and even though I sometimes don't like what I hear, it never stops me from being inquisitive once the dust settles! Are you the same way? I know that some people prefer to know nothing at all, so tell me ladies, where do you stand on being privy to your current boyfriend's past relationships?

Over the weekend, I ran into an old friend from high school and we started reminiscing. While she was updating me on our old classmates, I was reminded of the superlatives that our high school yearbook printed for seniors. Of course everyone wanted to get most likely to succeed, but most of us got stuck with things like best hair or most childish. These were more for a good laugh than a defining personality trait, but for a second I did wonder if people had lived up to their superlatives. I was voted worst morning person so I guess that still rings true, although I think I could come up with something a little better for the older and wiser DearSugar! So ladies, let me ask you, if you could give yourself any superlative now, do tell, what would it be?

Dear Poll: Passive or Pushy?

If you take a second to note of the different personalities of your friends, I bet some of them couldn't be more opposite. But that's one of the great things about having a big group of friends - everyone is different. In my group, I have one incredibly pushy friend and one incredibly passive friend. While I love them both, each personality trait can be equally draining. My pushy friend is needy and opinionated while my passive friend never makes an effort and waits for everyone to come to her, but I of course accept them for who they are. I'm sure we all have a little bit of both in us, but which personality trait do you most relate to?

While there are definitely subconscious signs we all give off to others, most of them are simply part of our personalities. When your friends say single signals, I'm assuming that they're saying you're confident, perhaps flirty and outgoing - all of which are great qualities to posses. And just because you haven't met anyone worthwhile yet, it's not to say that your personality traits are to blame.

Being approachable is extremely important when meeting new people, so make sure you're aware of the vibe you're giving off. Try to keep a smile on your face and just have fun - no one wants to approach a Debbie Downer. But when the time is right Phoebe, you'll meet someone that sparks your interest, regardless of your signals!

Dear Poll: Are You Needy?

Even if you’re incredibly independent, I think everyone goes through times in their life when they’re feeling deprived in some way and that unfulfilled desire often leads to bouts of neediness. I’ve gone through these moments with many friends, but very few are people whom I’d describe as needy. The friends that I do label with that trait have a personality that is consistently expectant and demanding. They can be frustrating, but I actually do appreciate that they speak up when they need something from our friendship. So ladies, would you consider yourself a needy person?

I don't think I'm alone in saying there's nothing sexier than a smart man. Having brains to back up a good-looking exterior speaks mouthfuls, but sometimes even the smartest men can be less than intelligent when it comes to street sense. On the flip side, someone who's not necessarily a straight-A student can be brilliant when it comes to common sense .
