We all have our moments, and sometimes the little things can set our mood into a tailspin. Maybe somebody accidentally threw away your bagged lunch at work, or your neighborhood coffee shop ran out of cream, and boom - you're instantly in a bad mood. Stereotypically speaking, women are thought of as the moody ones, but men can be moody too, and there's actually a name for it - irritable male syndrome. It's much less severe than depression or bipolar disorder, but the same roller coaster of emotions apply. One minute he's happy and loving life, and the next, he's sulking and not wanting to talk. This change in mood can be triggered by hormonal fluctuations (just like us!) or stress. Most people I'm close to are good at keeping an even temperament even in the midst of something negative. However, there are certainly a few people in my life who have very intense emotional reactions and tend to fluctuate moods depending on that emotion. Even though it can be hard to handle at times, I know that everyone is entitled to her own feelings and reactions to things. Sure, many women get a touch of this around the time of their periods, but in general, do you think that you're a moody person?

30 Percent Increase in Women Getting DUIs

Although men still outnumber women in drunk driving arrests by four to one, a report by the FBI for the National Highway Traffic Safety Commission shows that in the decade ending 2007, there has been a 30 percent increase in women getting arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Are women under more pressure for being the sole breadwinner in a he-cession? Are television shows encouraging them to drink more? Does motherhood drive them to drink? Maybe we'll see more PSAs about women and drinking, especially after the horrific accident recently in which a woman who was found later to have been drunk, drove her minivan the wrong way down a freeway, crashing into an SUV and killing eight people.

Laura Dean-Moody, president of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and a widow because a drunk driver killed her husband in 1991, thinks there should be stricter enforcement of drunk driving laws. More than 2 million drivers who have multiple DUI convictions will be on the road this upcoming Labor Day weekend. Moody doesn't think they should be able to keep their licenses: "These are people who have proven not once, not twice but three times that they are not worthy of the public's trust when it comes to operating a vehicle."

Study Suggests That We Think Clearer on Sunny Days

If you have a big decision to make, you might want to hurry up and make it before the sunny Summer's over.

New research reveals that not only are people more moody on cloudy days, but they actually have cloudier brains too! During a study on strokes, researchers coincidentally discovered a positive correlation between cognitive impairment and gloomy weather. While the study focused on people already prone to depression, experts say the findings can likely be extended to others. So you're probably better off making big decisions on days when the sky is clear and so is your mind.

What Kind of Employee Are You?

Your answer, it turns out, could make you richer or poorer than your female colleagues.

In an Essex University study called Does It Pay to Be Nice?, researcher Guido Heineck found that women who exhibited so-called "masculine" traits (aggressiveness or assertiveness, I imagine) earned about four percent more than their nicer or more passive colleagues over the course of their lives. To put a number on it, these Alpha Females earned about 40,000 pounds (or $65,224) more in their lifetime.

Conscientious women, or "women who displayed self-control and persistence" earned up to five percent more than their lazier co-workers. Neurotic women, however, or women who were more anxious and moody on the job, earned about three percent less than their co-workers.

None of this is a surprise, if you think about it, but what's frustrating is that although personality traits were deemed as important as intelligence in women, this hardly factored in at all when it came to a man's earning potential. Researcher Heineck: "Our statistics show that being nice does not pay for women, whereas working hard does. This is probably, in part, because agreeable people are too passive in conflict situations and are poorer wage negotiators."

Even with the annoying side effects like moodiness, breast tenderness, and occasional weight gain, you thought that the near-perfect effectiveness when it comes to pregnancy prevention was worth it.

For many women though, taking hormones to control the cycle can affect your libido. To find out why, just read more.

Many women complain of sexual side effects while on the pill. This is because the pill has the ability to decrease the frequency of some women's sexual thoughts, and the hormones can make it more difficult for her to get aroused. It can also decrease natural lubrication, so if she does have sex, it can be painful. Some studies even say that these effects can last for months after a woman stops taking the pill.

The reason this happens may have to do with the drug's effect on a woman's testosterone levels, which is thought to help drive her desire. The hormones block testosterone production in the ovaries and increase the production of the protein that attaches to testosterone to make it inactive.

This isn't always the case, and some women may actually experience an increase in sex drive. Different hormones affect each woman differently, so if one pill isn't working for you, it may take some trial and error to find one that does. Some women may also benefit from switching to a different form of hormonal birth control such as the NuvaRing or the patch. So if you're experiencing a lull in the bedroom and you suspect it's from your birth control, make an appointment with your gyno to discuss other options because hey, there's no point being on birth control if you aren't into having sex!

Where Do You Stand? Taking Hormonal Birth Control

Many women use hormonal birth control such as the pill, the NuvaRing, or the patch because it's effective, it's easy, it can control or eliminate your period, and it allows you to be more spontaneous when having sex. I know some women, though, who refuse to use it because they don't like how it decreases their sex drive, makes them moody, or makes their breasts grow. Still others just don't like the idea of putting chemicals into their bodies.

So where do you stand? Are you for or against using hormonal birth control?

Fox News's Chris Wallace Unleashes Hell on Rove Questioners

Fox News's Chris Wallace may have misunderstood the point of doing PR when he snapped in front of a crowd of reporters at the Television Critics Association in LA moments ago. Our intrepid Buzz was front and center for the giant meltdown and besides sending texts saying "Rove's wearing a green tie! It's too long!" then she says things rapidly got even uglier. Joined on a panel by Howard Wolfson, John Moody, and Karl Rove, here's how the spin hit the fan:

Let's begin at the end, when the explosion happened. The Fox folks were ready to wrap up, and Wallace said basically, "no. I have something else to say."

Wallace then launched into a stern tirade that he thought there was a huge bias in the questions being asked of Karl Rove - especially regarding the controversy about him not testifying in front of Congress. He raged on why that would have any impact on his ability to work for Fox News, which is an independent news organization. Wallace then asked that he'd be curious to know if a conservative Congress had subpoenaed James Carville, if the reporters would be sitting there asking CNN whether it undermined their credibility to have him as a commentator. The general response from the reporters assembled was says Buzz, "uh, YEAH we would." Wallace fired back essentially, "oh, you would? Well, I'd be very curious to see that." The out-of-context blowup was according to Buzz, about a Richter 8 on the tension scale.

Does having Karl Rove as a commentator, given the whole testifying debacle, undermine the credibility of Fox News?
John Moody: "Mr. Rove is a certified authority on the electoral process, on politics. His track record speaks for itself. His current difference of opinion with Congress is between him and Congress."

A while later, Rove clarified:
"It is not between me and Congress. I have not asserted any personal privilege. It's between the White House and Congress."

Were those NY Times doctored photos justified?

Chris Wallace: "My feeling is that news organizations ought to run regular pictures of people, not doctored."
John Moody: "Fox and Friends is an entertainment show that does some news. . . . It's certainly there for a big bunch of humor."

And what about the other rival, MSNBC?
Chris Wallace: "MSNBC in its coverage of this campaign went so far over the line in terms of being in the tank to Barack Obama that it lost a lot of credibility. There's a reason why Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity don't anchor election night on Fox."

How does Hillary's former adviser Wolfson feel about being on Fox News?
Wolfson: "I want to be in a position to offer analysis from the left, from a progressive perspective. That's how I've lived my whole life. I'm not going to check my politics at the door."

What about Obama's religion?
Does Karl Rove believe Barack Obama is a Muslim: No. Does he believe there's anything un-American about him? No. But he said he did think Obama made a mistake saying what he said about the lapel pin after Sept. 11. "I think it went one step too far to say that wearing a flag lapel pin is not true patriotism."

What Happened to the Today Sponge?

So you hate that condoms make sex less enjoyable and you despise being on hormones because they make you moody. So what's a girl to do about preventing pregnancy? Maybe you've considered the Today Sponge. It's a hormone-free, spermicidal foam sponge that a woman inserts before sex. It covers the cervix so it prevents sperm from getting to the uterus and it also kills any sperm that should happen to pass through. Women who love the Today Sponge really love it, but the problem is, it's off the market! Last December, Synova, the company who manufactured it went bankrupt. No money means no Today Sponge. But I have good news. To hear it read more.

This past June, Alvogen purchased the manufacturing rights for the Today Sponge. There isn't much info about when we should see it back on shelves, but I'll bet it's soon since so many women are anxiously awaiting its arrival. If you can't live without the Today Sponge, you can purchase it for a pretty penny on eBay or Amazon but as soon as I hear something, I'll let you know.

Do Tell: How Does Hormonal Birth Control Affect Your Mood?

Though I do think hormonal birth control options, like the pill and NuvaRing, are great methods of contraception, I’ll be the first to admit that the fluctuation in hormones can definitely cause feelings of irritability and depression. Of course much of it depends on the dosage, as well as how your body handles it. So ladies, do tell: Have you found yourself fighting with your moodiness after going on hormonal birth control? Or does it actually improve your moods?
