Root For Your Guy's Sport Team - If They Win, So Do You (in the Bedroom)!

If you're in love with a sports fan, it's time to put on your baseball hat, football helmet, or basketball jersey. Do whatever it takes to root for your man's favorite team, because a recent poll discovered that 30 percent of US men think sex is better after their team wins. The same poll also found that 10 percent said they had bad sex after their team suffered a loss, and some guys don't even want to have sex at all because they're too stressed out and wired to be in the mood. One in four male sports fans said that they'd even voluntarily give up sex for a month if it guaranteed a major win at the end of the season, and 11 percent would give up sex "for however long it takes."

The point here is that women underestimate just how important sports are to a guy. The bond he has to a team probably started when he was a little, watching sports with his dad, so it's something he's been tied to for most of his life. His favorite team was his first love before he found you, so you can understand why his emotions are so closely connected to it. I know it's frustrating to see your guy spend hours upon hours each week staring at the TV, but it may help to show him a little sympathy when his team loses - he might find it very sexy when you yell at the TV too!

Does Your Man Talk Sex With His Buddies?

I thought it was a given, that all guys love to talk about sex when they're hanging with their guy friends, but when I asked one of mine, he said that's not always the case. He has some friends that are always dishing about their sex lives - who they've banged (I know, that's so gross) and what not, but he also said that some of his friends just don't talk about it at all.

So what about your man? Do you think he ends up talking about sex when he's out with the boys? If so, what details do you think he divulges?

Top 10 Reasons Men Don't Want Sex: Part Two

I know it can be pretty frustrating and make you feel a little self-conscious when your man just isn't in the mood to get it on, but like I said yesterday, there are definitely some reasons why men don't want to have sex. Here are five more.

Disagreements with one's mate: Who wants to hug, kiss, and roll around under the covers with someone they're upset with? A man, just like a woman, may be so angry with his partner that he doesn't want to be anywhere near them. Or he may withhold sex from his partner as a form or punishment or tactic to get what he wants.
Stress: If your man is stressed about money, home, his sick grandfather, or your kids then you know what's on his mind, and unfortunately, it's not sex.
He masturbates on his own: I don't think there's anything wrong with masturbating while you're in a relationship, but when masturbation takes the place of sex with the person you're dating or married to, problems will no doubt arise.

Fear of intimacy: Ahh, the buzz words. Well it's true, some guys have a fear of getting close and having sex with someone is the ultimate form of love and expression. You may have to have a little patience (or a lot), and wait until your guy gets to know you better so he can feel comfortable with the idea of being that connected to you.
Difficulties functioning sexually: With all the commercials out there for drugs to help with impotence, it's no secret that men are having physical problems getting aroused. Some men may also have problems orgasming too soon, or too late, or not at all.

10 Reasons Why Men Don't Want Sex: Part One

In the beginning of a new relationship, it's hard to keep your hands off each other. Sharing all that fiery passion is what makes it so exciting, but as you get to know each other and become more comfortable, the frequency of sex usually cools down, and sometimes, your sex life can hit a complete drought. So if your man is the one who's "not in the mood," here are the top five reasons why, according to WebMD:

Medications: If your man is taking prescriptions for depression or anxiety, they may be to blame for his nonexistent sex drive.
Lack of sleep: If your man hasn't gotten his fair share of zzz's, then sleep will be the only thing on his mind come bedtime.
Hormonal levels: Testosterone is what drives your man to want to get it on, so if he's lacking in that department, don't count on him wanting to tear your clothes off. Your man can easily figure out if this is the problem by seeing his doctor and getting his hormonal levels checked.

Identity issues: Some men have a personal crisis and start to ask important questions like, "What am I doing with my life?" This can happen if they're unhappy with their job or have recently gotten laid off. They could also have issues with their identity if their strong beliefs are questioned or if a close friend or loved one passes away. These kind of issues will understandably put sex on the back burner.
Turn-off to aspects of the sex: If your man has a hard time pleasing you or you take a long time to orgasm, he may have confidence issues or feel like sex is too much work. If he doesn't find sex fulfilling, or if he's not turned on by his partner, instead of talking about it, he may think it's easier to just not have sex at all.

Mad Men: Why Is Vacation Sex So Good?

Last night on Mad Men, dapper Don Draper has to go to Rome on business, and seemingly on a whim, Betty asks if she can accompany him.

Once they're in Rome, something happens to Betty. She glams it up, flirts with Don, and their stultifying marriage seems to get an erotic adrenaline shot to the heart. It's as if they get to meet each other for the first time all over again. In fact, in one sequence, Betty waits for Don at an outdoor cafe, and when he sees that a couple Italian men are trying to pick her up, he pretends to horn in on their pickup. He sits down, begins chatting with her, and the Italian men, disgusted, leave.

Predictably, as soon as they get back home, Betty stiffens up and rebuffs Don's romantic overtures, telling him bluntly that she hates her life at home. He gives her a gift, a charm of the Roman Colliseum, and her deflating response is, "So every time I look at it I'll remember the time we had in Rome."

It would be wonderful if we could bring home the excitement we have with our partners on vacation. Although not all of us turn into stone cold Betties upon our returns home, there is something about traveling that can bring out our best. Why is vacation sex so good, and is it possible to keep the excitement going?

Sex Myth: Men Want Sex ALL the Time

Where did we ever get the idea that men want sex MORE than women? While it's true that men might feel like it's cool to have as many sexual partners as they can get their horny little hands on, there's got to be women out there satisfying they're need too, right?

In my opinion, it all depends on personality, not gender. Some men don't want sex all the time, and some women can't get enough.

A woman could be sitting on the couch with her man watching TV. She'll reach over and gently rub his thigh, and he'll push her hand away and say "C'mon babe, I'm watching the game." How humiliating, not to mention frustrating!

This debunked myth is screwing things up (no pun intended). In order for a women to want to make love, part of her needs to feel wanted, to be chased, and sought after. So what's a girl to do if her guy has a low libido?

If you are feeling sex-starved and your man isn't in the mood, give these a try:

Surprise him by sneaking into the bathroom while he's taking his morning shower (and plan on being late to work)
While he is doing something like checking his email or watching TV, go over sit on his lap, and casually start kissing his neck. Some men can't resist a woman who initiates sex.
Plan a surprise massage. Set up blankets on the floor, candles, soothing music, and massage oil. Add some sweet kisses and I bet your massage won't last long...
Wear something you know he likes. This could be a special scent, dangly jewelry, high heels, a flirty skirt, or a t-shirt. It doesn't have to be a sexy g-string - not all guys are into that.
Give him a little space. If you are constantly trying to get it on and he's shooting you down, take the hint. Go out with your girlfriends, go for a run, let him be without you, and he'll be missing you in no time.
Talk to him about how you're feeling. Maybe there's a reason he's not feeling in the mood.

Sex in the '60s: What Mad Men Tells Us About Love

Season three of Mad Men starts this Sunday, and we're counting down the days until it's 1960-something - we don't even know what year it will be! The show jumps from 1960 in season one to 1962 in season two, so it's likely that a year or more will have passed.

Perhaps the most entertaining thing about the show is learning about 1960s etiquette and ethos, and nowhere is it more apparent than with the characters' relationships. I've found quotes from major characters that not only illustrate how they see love and sex, but also what relationships and gender roles looked like in 1962.

Girl Crush du Jour: Alison Brie

Adorable. No word better sums up actress Alison Brie. And while I am sure the 26-year-old would prefer a more sophisticated adjective, she does play Trudy Campbell on Mad Men and ain't nothin' more sophisticated than that. Combine that with her success as the strung-out community college student on NBC's Community, and how I could not be crushing?

Other than radiating ebullience in real life, Alison, who says she's rarely recognized on the street, seems nothing like either character. She grew up with hippie parents in South Pasadena, CA, where she still lives and showed up to a Pasadena Weekly interview in a "Die Yuppie Scum" t-shirt.

But Alison's not as innocent as she or her characters look. She told Pasadena Weekly: "I don’t know why people see me . . . like I’m all prim and proper, when I couldn’t be more different. People think I come off that way, but I’m not.”

She's right. In this 2007 skit, she dishes it right back to the Internet's most infamous yogi, The Underminer, when he asks her to be in his variety show that's like "Curb Your Enthusiasm meets You Can't Do That on Television." Namaste! Watch it below.

Cheating: Would Marriage Change Your Reaction?

Last night on Mad Men, both Don and Betty are tempted to cheat. While Don, a seasoned philanderer, has no trouble cheating on Betty with his daughter's former teacher, Betty thinks twice about consummating her flirtation with belly-toucher Henry. It's not because of her marriage, of course, but because sex in an office is "tawdry." Obviously!

Betty knows Don's a cheater, and seems to have reconciled it by cheating herself - both last season with that stranger in the bar and this season in her emotional affair with Henry - and limiting what she knows about her husband's, well, affairs. Would being married to a cheater modify how you reacted, or would you put your foot down no matter what?

Bill Clinton Has Problematic Views on Mad Men

It appears Bill Clinton has come out of retirement to put his foot in his mouth. When discussing his appreciation for Mad Men, Clinton attempted to present a balanced view about how the show depicts women. Unfortunately, it came out sounding quite embarrassing considering his reputation for putting the moves on his staff, something we see a lot on the show. Clinton said:

"The way women were treated is appalling, and only occasionally funny to me."

I think someone should tell Mr. Clinton that the "appalling" treatment of women is not supposed to be funny . . . ever. Let's just hope this was an unfortunate choice of words.
