Well I will share with you, I have been married for 19 years and have three children. I have always said to my husband that if I have not traveled overseas by the time I was 40, that I will be. It was a goal I had visioned. That goal became true as I really believed in it. I have many more goals and things for my bucket list that I am ticking off. I have been to Vietnam and Singapore. It has truly changed my whole aspects of life. You need to follow your passion and not let anything get in the road of that. We only have one chance of living this life.

A Look at Polygamist Life in the 1940s

Long before Big Love and Sister Wives, Americans had a fascination with polygamy. In 1944, LIFE magazine sent photographer John Florea to Salt Lake City, UT to capture what life was like for polygamist men, the sister wives, and the many children they produced.

In the photo above, Rulon Clark Allred, a medical doctor, stands with his four wives, his mother, a few sisters-in-law, and many of his children. He would go on to have a total of seven wives (two of whom were identical twins) and 48 children. One of his daughters, Dorothy Allred Solomon, who was born after this photo was taken, tells LIFE how she got to spend time with her busy father:

He set my arm without any kind of anesthesia when I was in fifth grade. And it was really painful, and he was very brusque. I think I probably broke my arm so that I could see him. I know that sounds extreme, but that was one sure way we could see our dad. I didn't really purposely break it - but I was reckless that day, and I remember thinking, 'I'd sure love to see my dad.'

Is Honesty the Best Policy?

Is cheating ever forgivable? I’ve found myself vehemently claiming that cheating is never forgivable on more than one occasion, but what if I were on the other end of the scenario...

What if I had been the one who made a mistake, I wanted to tell my significant other but I knew it would end our relationship, would I allow the guilt eat away at me, in order to preserve the relationship or would I risk everything just to be honest? Is honesty really the best policy?

Society encourages to "walk a mile in someone else’s shoes" but only when it is convenient. When it comes to fidelity, we more often than not blame the cheater rather than examine the relationship. I believe that, although cheating may be forgivable to some, it is unforgettable to most. I’ve never crossed the line but I’ve walked on the border once or twice; it took months to live down the guilt of an almost.

If someone has enough courage to admit their wrongs, don’t we at least owe it to each other to examine the relationship more closely?

How to Fall For the Nice Guy

1. Forget the 'Bad Boys'

If you want to be open to finding the man of your future, you have to forget the boys of your past. If your girlfriend didn’t return your phone calls or routinely blew you off, you wouldn’t continue to be friends with her, so why do we make exceptions for guys? The reason they possess a certain sense of mystery is because they are unattainable. Despite that obvious fact, a significant amount of women still waste their time on these emotionally stunted man-children (they look like men, act like children). I speak from experience when I say they usually do not come around and even if said ‘bad boy’ did come to his senses, do you really want a guy who is going to need twelve chances to get it right? Your pet probably has more emotional maturity.

2. Be Open to Something New

As I’ve said in previous articles, we need to throw our checklists out the window! Truth be told, we probably don’t know what we truly want. Some women claim they want a financially successful husband, seems admirable and reasonable enough right? Except financial success comes with a price- he might be a workaholic or he might be unwilling to consider a family because of the hours his job demands. The bottom line is: we have to be flexible and willing to try something new. Our soulmate might not come in the package we expect but he doesn’t need to have a six pack to make you laugh or a six-figure salary to be a good father.

Happy Birthday Marilyn Monroe!

Marilyn Monroe, who infamously sang "Happy birthday, Mr. President" at the age of 35, would be celebrating her 83rd birthday today. In honor of her birthday, LIFE.com released 15 never-before-published photos of Marilyn when she was only 24 years old and far from famous. Her star quality shined through at a young age, but when the photographer sent the photos to LIFE in 1950, the magazine wired back: "Who the hell is Marilyn Monroe?" Now the magazine is sharing the pictures - almost 60 years later!

Happy birthday, Marilyn.

What Could You Live Without?

Yesterday's Oprah was dedicated to simplifying your life. Since we are all learning a hard lesson about money, she is challenging those who are struggling financially to pull back the reigns by taking Suze Orman's three-step money pledge to not spend any money for a day, not use a credit card for a week, and not eat out for a month. The couples that rose to the challenge realized how little they really needed to live and what truly matters in life, which just solidifies Oprah's poignant statement of, "Having the best things is no substitute for having the best life."

Since we are all trying to save where we can, going back to the basics is the quickest, easiest way to keep unnecessary spending at bay. So if you're on the saving money bandwagon, too, tell me, what have you realized that you can actually live without?

Do Tell: What's the Best Piece of Advice a Parent's Given You?

Getting unsolicited advice, especially from our parents, can be more frustrating and intrusive than helpful. With more years and life experience under their belts, some of what they say must be true, which is why it’s always good to at least hear them out even if you find their know-it-all sentiment irritating.

My mom always told me to beware of charming men, and to this day I'm not convinced by a charmer until I see his genuine side - I think it's saved me a few heartaches! I’ve shared mine, now what’s yours? Do tell: What’s the best piece of advice you got from your parents?

The How-To Lounge: Making the Best of Things

Financially, things are rough right now, and even if you’re not personally affected, it’s impossible to miss the changes happening everywhere as people lose their homes and their jobs. In such a time of uncertainty, it’s easy to let worries overtake you. But as they say about life giving you lemons, maybe it's time to make lemonade. To see my ideas for doing just that,

First of all, do what it takes to get your finances in order. Organizing your money will allow you to feel more comfortable and alleviate many worries. You couldn’t possibly have a better excuse to now. If you don't know where to start, I'm sure Savvy has plenty of tips for you.
It’s too expensive to go out, so stay in. Offer to have people over for a cheap wine party or a pot luck dinner.
The same goes for family. It’s expensive to meet at a restaurant or take an outing to the movies. It costs a fraction of that to whip up some chili and pull out the Monopoly board. And you know what? These are the family memories that last longest.
In need of extra cash? Try cleaning your house. The junk that’s been clogging your counters and cabinets this year could bring in some money. Not to mention that your house will actually be clutter-free, too.
Give volunteering a shot. You may be surprised how working with an organization you care about will start to make you feel hopeful. It’s easy to sit at home depressed, but you’ll feel much better taking action.
