I'm a huge fan of hair on a guy's chests. It's attractive, sexy, and very masculine. With that said, a little goes a long way - I want the guy I'm dating to look like a man, not a bear.

How Manscaped Do You Like Your Men?

A fascinating New York Times article charts the history of manscaping - the practice by men of removing hair from their chests, back, armpits or groin area. It used to be the province of male models, athletes, and homosexuals. No longer. If you look at the mass marketing of body razors (watch the commercial below for Braun bodycruZer razor "with a special attachment for sensitive areas"), you can see that every Tom, Dick and Hairy is supposed to manscape whether or not he's an athletic, gay, male model.

One survey of 364 male students at the University of South Florida on the subject of "male body depilation" found that more than 80 percent of them depilated. (I don't think I've ever used that as a verb.) The most interesting factoid? The graduate student who is conducting the survey said that there was no statistically significant difference between the number of gay men versus straight men who manscaped. How times have changed! I'm telling you, men are the new women.

Turn On or Turn Off: Exposed Chest Hair

Since I know you ladies find a man with a hairy chest sexy, I'd love to have your thoughts about gents that wear the exposed chest hair look. Personally, I think a couple of buttons undone and a little chest exposure done right can be a turn on, but on some guys, I’ve seen it look more than a little sleazy. So what do you think? Is the exposed chest hair look a turn on or a total turn off?

You Asked: I Don't Like How My Privates Look

Dear Sugar,

I am wanting to be in a relationship more than anything, but I have a problem. I'm really nervous about having sex because I'm embarrassed about being naked, and ashamed of how my private parts look. My breasts seem small to me, and I'm really hairy down there. It would be terrible if he didn't like me because of how I looked. How can I feel better about this?

Dear Self-Conscious Connie,

Just so you know, everyone is nervous and uncomfortable when they're first naked in front of someone else. My advice is to get to know the guy before you have sex so you can develop an emotional connection first. If you find that you're both ready to become intimate, tell him that you want to move slowly. Only do things you're comfortable with, and you can even keep the lights off at first. Try not to worry about what he thinks of your appearance because chances are he's nervous about being naked in front of you, too. If you truly care for one another, then you'll feel like you can be open and honest with your feelings and you'll know that you can trust him to be understanding and patient.

As far as your smaller chest goes, lots of guys don't want a woman with huge breasts, so be happy with what you have. If you feel like your girls need a little umph, get yourself a push-up bra, but don't overdo it, you don't want your guy to be too surprised when he does see you naked! As far as your pubic area, you can trim your hair so that it's not as long, shave or wax the sides so it looks a little neater, or get rid of the hair completely - the choice is up to you.

I would also practice being naked with yourself (alone), so you can get used to undressing and feeling nothing but air on your skin. At first it will feel really weird, but with time, you'll become more comfortable and confident with your body. Always remember that if a guy doesn't want to be with you because of how you look, then he's not a guy worth knowing.

My Roommate Left me in the Lurch

Dear Sugar--
Things between my roommate and I have been pretty tense lately since she backed out on our future living situation. We were hunting for apartments for a month and then out of left field, she shocked me by saying she is planning on moving back home. This really angered me because now I am stuck looking for a 1 bedroom while I could have signed a lease months ago with another friend had I not been on a wild goose chase with my current roommate.

Yesterday, I accidentally logged on to her facebook account (her comp saves passwords) and then I'll admit it, I read one of her messages. It turns out that she is not moving home, but looking for an apartment with a coworker. I am furious now because we are supposed to be best friends and lately all she has been doing is lying to me. I haven't told her what I know and how I know and my anger is just getting worse by the second. The problem is how can you confront someone when you weren't supposed to read the message in the first place? --Snooping Sophie

Dear Snooping Sophie--
I am sorry your roommate left you in the lurch and I can completely understand your frustration with her. While you did invade your roommate's privacy, if you want to confront her you're going to have to come clean about your snooping. Your anger is bound to affect your friendship so the sooner you get everything off your chest the better, although be prepared to suffer the consequences of your actions.

Living with friends can get hairy sometimes, especially when one person wants to move on, so I suggest sitting her down and having a heart to heart. Honesty is the best policy, so hash everything out before your friendship becomes affected. While you are jumping to conclusions and taking her decision to live with another friend personally, you don't know the facts. Is your roommate having monetary problems? Could this new living situation be much cheaper than what she pays now? Is it closer to her work place, etc.?

It sounds as though your roommate was uncomfortable telling you the truth because she was afraid of hurting your feelings, so instead she went behind your back which is in turn making matters worse. Be the bigger person; let her know you are aware of what's going on and that you would have appreciated her honesty. Hopefully once all the facts are on the table, you can enjoy the remaining time together as roommates and get excited for your new relationships as friends versus roommates in the future. You never know, living apart could turn out to be a great new chapter in your life.
