Livin' on a Prayer: Insecurity Over Looks Makes Us Religious?

Seeing people we consider more attractive than ourselves could bring us closer to God. In a recent study, participants who were shown online profiles of attractive people of the same sex described themselves as more religious than those who did not feel the need to compete on looks.

One evolutionary explanation for the findings is this: when people confront the fact that there are attractive mating competitors out there, they are more likely to embrace a conservative approach to reproduction, aka religiously-endorse monogamy.

I guess this means that really, really good looking people are more likely to be atheists?

God and Google Go Head To Head

I often joke with my fellow Sugar ladies about the man inside the internet... that is the 'dear internet' guy who can answer anything and everything. Whenever one of us has a burning question, we often say "just ask the internet!" to which the other person responds by turning to her computer and talking out loud while typing "dear internet, how far..." When I saw these pictures on TecnoCHICA, I couldn't help but think of our "dear internet" fun. These images are totally legit and were taken from signs for the St. Giles Presbyterian Church and the North Shore Assembly of God. Apparently, whoever made their signs was in the mood for a little geeky humor.
My bad - maybe Google and the internet guy can't solve everything after all! All images are from the blog of David Cancel.

Fat People Don't Go to Heaven? Since When?

The lengths that people will go to, just to lose weight, never cease to amaze me, but this method may take the cake.

Recently I have been hearing a lot about the Remnant Fellowship Church in Franklin, Tennessee. This church preaches about God and weight loss in the Weigh Down Diet program. Amazingly enough, Weigh Down is the most successful Christian weight loss program in the country, which has many people flocking to Gwen Shamblin (pictured), the leader of Remnant, like fixated moths to a bright light.

The basics of the Remnant Fellowship are this: overeating is a sin. Her book The Weigh Down Diet, which has sold over a million copies worldwide stresses the benefits of eating tiny bites and objects to exercising to offset your caloric intake. The scare tactics and shame methods keep followers in line by telling them overeating will result in hell.

The best part. Remnant does not allow theological debate, and free will is basically out the door. Shamblin directs those with questions to her 800 number.

My take on this whole thing: The best way to lose weight from the Weigh Down Diet is by running (very, very fast) in the opposite direction of the Remnant Fellowship. This diet is cult-like and unhealthy, not only for the body but for the mind as well. I am all for a support group when trying to get fit, but not a support group that tells you it's either weight loss or hell. Shamblin is making millions while her followers are contemplating suicide, that's just not right.

Glee-ful Highlights From Episode "Heart"

It's Valentine's Day at McKinley, and everyone gets in on the action in this week's episode of Glee. For the lesson, Mr. Schuester wants everyone to choose a great love song to perform, which means a lot of the action takes place in the relationship department. Finn and Rachel try to get everyone excited about their upcoming nuptials; Brittany and Santana deal with scrutiny of the nature of their relationship, and Mercedes and Sam may love each other, but they just can't seem to get it together.

At first, I was pretty excited that "Heart" was going to be an episode full of musical numbers, but it feels a little plot driven for my taste. Regardless, there's a lot happened this week, so get in on all details after the jump.

Jennifer Aniston Rocks a Bra For a GQ Shoot With Paul Rudd

Jennifer Aniston wore a bra and a skirt to cover the March issue of GQ with her Wanderlust costar Paul Rudd. The issue, which is out on newsstands Feb. 21, was shot by Jen's pal Terry Richardson - see all the pictures of Jennifer Aniston in GQ. Jen and Paul's romantic comedy hits theaters on Feb. 24, though Jen, Paul, and her real-life love Justin Theroux will be side by side for Thursday's LA premiere. Jen and Paul chatted about their film in the accompanying interview, and she also addressed the joys of aging, not being pregnant, and how to make a marriage work. Here are highlights:

Jen on pregnancy rumors: "I’m not having triplets. Not having twins. Nor am I having one baby. [lifts up sweater and gestures to belly; it appears flat] I did not elope . . . You heard it here. I’m not knocked up now."
Jen on marriage: "It’s a growing, literally living thing. There’s going to be growing pains, there’s going to be awkward moments - your lanky phase, your pimpled phase. I think that’s the beauty of a relationship. But if the road starts to [Paul jumps in to say, "diverge"] and one person is growing this way and the other is growing that way . . . Sometimes that can happen and you can stay together, and sometimes you can’t."
On her 40s: "Forty’s great!! . . . Oh, my God, my thirties blew! Forties are great."
