The nation's capitol is now the sixth jurisdiction in the US where gay couples can marry. But as wedding bells ring today for happy couples, the local Catholic Church sounded the alarm. Following Congress's approval of DC's same-sex marriage law, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington decided to no longer offer health insurance to any spouses of employees in order to avoid covering gay spouses.

I just learned this and wanted to share: gay marriage is almost-sort-of legal in France! A Pact Civil de Solidarité (or PaCS) is a civil union between two people of any sex who wish to combine their debts, contracts, and assets.

Portia de Rossi may be best known for her roles on Ally McBeal, Arrested Development, and Better Off Ted, but it's her role as Mrs. Ellen DeGeneres that may make her mark. As Ellen's fame skyrockets as Judge Ellen on American Idol, Portia hopes she'll find a larger audience, too.

After the Supreme Court blocked a plan to broadcast the trial of California's same-sex marriage ban on YouTube, two filmmakers have found a loophole. Using the transcripts and lookalike actors (including Oscar-nominated Tess Harper and 24's Gregory Itzin) to play the judge, lawyers, plaintiffs, defendants, and witnesses, the filmmakers are reenacting the trial of Proposition 8 and posting it on YouTube. When it comes to gay issues, President Obama swings both ways. Ignoring what he has or hasn't accomplished yet, even Obama's campaign promises were conflicted. He promised to end Don't Ask, Don't Tell (still waiting), help repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (coming soon?), and he has signed an anti-hate crime bill into law, as promised.
