I have about a dozen shoeboxes jammed in the farthest corners of my closet just stuffed to the brim with old letters, cards, ticket stubs, and other random things that carry serious sentimental value for me. Every time I move, I carefully pack up all these boxes and place them lovingly in my new closet, where they sit for the most part untouched. Every once in a while though, when I'm feeling down or just contemplative, I open up the boxes and let the nostalgic feeling wash over me — it's like a trip down memory lane!

There’s just something about adolescence — and I think it has a lot to do with hormones — that tends to bring out the awkwardness in people. Admittedly, I had my own awkward phase, but it was when I was nine. I was too gangly for my own good, with teeth too big for my small mouth and a terrible bowl haircut.

There was a time not long ago when it felt like the word "adult" shouldn't be applied to me but only used for real grown-ups like my parents. Then suddenly I woke up and realized that if I have all the responsibilities of an adult, I must actually be one, too! Truth be told, I may not be a kid anymore, but some days I don’t feel much like an adult either.

Whenever I can get away from San Francisco for a weekend, I always take advantage of a few days without the people, cars, and noise. There's nothing like spending time out of town enjoying the mellow nature of California's valleys. But I only need a few days before I'm ready to head home to the people, the cars, and the noise!

Life is fairly routine, which is probably why we all spend so much time and effort trying to come up with ways to spice things up. But frankly, sometimes I take comfort in my weekly habits; it gives me something to look forward to and something to count on. In fact, my newest weekly ritual is dinner with my girlfriends on either Tuesday or Wednesday, and of course, before the season finale, The Bachelorette.

Everyone gets angry, but some of us tend to snap more easily than others. Maybe it's a frustrating customer service representative or an irritating comment from a family member, but suddenly your anger flares up in a bout of bad temper. Fortunately, I don't get heated easily, but I'd be lying if I said that stress didn't bring out my temper.

As I’ve said before, I think there’s nothing wrong with tooting your own horn every now and then — hey, we all have a right to feel proud of ourselves — but even so, no one likes a braggart. I especially have a difficult time with bragging if it comes from a close friend or someone whom I care about and respect. I already think the people in my life are amazing, so if they’re gloating just for the sake of looking good, it’s easy to feel put off.

Perhaps stemming from the social beliefs of past decades, I always notice how modest and self-deprecating certain women tend to be. While modesty is a good quality, I think it’s OK to toot your own horn every now and again. In fact, we’re so well-trained not to boast that sometimes I think we inadvertently downplay things that are brag-worthy like a big promotion, making Honors, or running a half-marathon.

Although I’m not a fan of running errands, I am a complete believer in the to-do list or any kind of list for that matter. Sometimes, in a busy day, the only way to keep track of things is to write them down. I even have running lists of movies I want to see and books I want to read.

While we may love a shy guy, being shy ourselves can pose many difficulties out in the world. You easily get pegged as stuck-up or can just end up completely overlooked. Being outgoing, on the other hand, typically avoids both those stereotypes and lends itself to meeting new people.
