I have a close friend who's getting married and she has an amazing last name. It's so awesome, in fact, that everyone refers to her by it. Her dilemma then is, should she change her last name and take on her husband's after saying I do?

Dear Sugar,
I'm getting married in four months. My fiancé and I have been in a bit of a tussle over the past year regarding what to do with my last name. I have no desire to change it for a number of reasons like the fact that his name always gets mispronounced in a derogatory fashion, and my first and last names go so well together.

I was wondering if I could get some thoughts on this. I'm engaged and from the beginning of our relationship, I told my boyfriend that I was not going to change my last name after we were married and that if he really wanted me to, I'd hyphenate. My last name is rather important to me as it's long and Italian and I'm very proud of where I come from and what I've gone through with it (I grew up in small town Midwest so I was teased a lot).

Worrying that "the mailman would get confused" or that "society wouldn’t function as well if women did not change their names," 70 percent of Americans say that new brides should take their husband's last name. Even more shocking, the study presented yesterday at the American Sociological Association’s annual meeting found that 50 percent of respondents thought it should be made a legal requirement for women to change their names to their husbands'!
The reasons given ranged from religious beliefs to social convenience — some people actually suggested that the post office might be confused if there were people living at the same address with two different names.

Prior to garnering a namesake killer, Craigslist took a laissez-faire approach to erotic advertising. The site offered a gold mine for anyone looking to sell, or pay for, sex.
After the murders of call girls who advertised on the site, the classifieds giant will no longer advertise "erotic services."

Ever since Barack Obama won the general campaign students at the school formally known as Ludlum Elementary School have been campaigning to name the school after the 44th President. After convincing the school board only weeks after the election, the school held its own little inauguration yesterday, becoming the first to adopt Barack Obama's name.
At the name-changing ceremony students wore sweatshirts with the new name and the logo "Yes We Can."
