It's hard to practice what you preach all the time. Sure, with the big things that you feel incredibly passionate about it's not, but with the little everyday things, like recycling or smoking cigarettes, it's easy to break the rules from time to time. Handle This: Break the Rules?

Welcome to DearSugar's new feature: Handle This. I'm going to give you a hypothetical scenario and ask you to tell me how you would handle it in the comments below. Let's give it a whirl.

Your best friend asks you to baby sit her daughter so she and her husband could have a night to themselves after the craziness of the holidays. Of course you oblige even though you're not the best when it comes to kids. Your friend is a very strict mom and leaves you a laundry list of rules to obey by, including no sweets, an early bed time, and absolutely no television.

An hour into your babysitting duties, the toddler throws a temper tantrum. She starts screaming and crying and you try everything in your power to calm her down; you sing to her, you hold her, you even try to feed her again, but nothing seems to help. Your patience is running thin and you call another friend to ask her what to do. Her only advice is to sit the screamer in front of the TV until she falls asleep. You know how against TV your friend is, but your patience is about to run out, so what do you do? Go against the grain and risk getting yelled at by your best friend, or keep up your efforts of trying to calm her down without breaking the rules? Tell me how you would handle this!

Do You Date Younger Men?

Author Candace Bushnell might be married to a man 10 years her junior, but don't call her a cougar. In an op-ed out tomorrow in More Magazine, the Sex and the City writer laments the fact that women who break out of traditional roles are then labeled with a derogatory term. We have "ballbuster" female CEOs, "bitchy" politicians, and alas, "cougars."

Candace believes that people who use the term cougar are simply ignorant of the real appeal of dating younger men. Or maybe they're just jealous. Candace writes:

What I have yet to see is a real woman choose a younger man because he spent six hours a day at the gym trying to sculpt his abs. The fact that a man is open to being with an older woman suggests that he doesn't give a hang what other people think of him. More likely, he's confident, open-minded and willing to make his own rules. All of which just happen to be qualities that, much more than a great six-pack, make for a great relationship.

Saudi Could Be Flogged For Bragging About Sexual Conquests

Do you find it annoying when men brag about the women they've slept with? Well Saudi Arabia finds it more than annoying - it's flog worthy! Abdul Jawad, a Saudi man who boasted about his sexual conquests on Arab TV, is now facing mounting calls for him to be imprisoned or flogged.

Ignoring the fact that premarital sex is a serious crime in Saudi Arabia, Abdul bragged about how he began sleeping with women at the age of 14. He also chronicled how he met women using the Bluetooth function on his cell phone. Gender-segregated singles in the conservative country use the mobile device to communicate with each other in public. For example, a man might see a group of women sitting in a restaurant, search to see if they have an active Bluetooth device, and then ask for permission to send them text messages.

As you might guess, Abdul isn't the only person in Saudi Arabia that breaks the rules - he's just the least discreet person to do so.

Supreme Court: Strip Search of Girl Was Unconstitutional

I've been following the story of Savana Redding for a while now. When Savana was 13, she was strip searched at school on the false suspicion that she brought prescription-strength Ibuprofen pills to campus.

Well, today the Supreme Court handed down the ruling that it was unconstitutional for the school officials to conduct that nude strip search of Savana. "They asked me to pull out my bra and move it from side to side," she said of the ordeal. "They made me open my legs and pull out my underwear.”

The court ruled that there was no reason to suspect that Savana was such a danger to other students that she had to be strip searched, considering the school thought she only had prescription drugs equivalent to two Advil.

Despite ruling that the search was unconstitutional, the court said that Savana cannot sue the school officials because it would have been hard for them to know they were breaking the law.

Do you think the court made the right decision about saying the strip was illegal, or is it important that officials are able to implement a drug-free policy as they see necessary? Even if you think the strip was wrong, should Savana be able to sue?

Michelle Obama Dishes Secrets to White House Staffers' Kids

On Take Your Kids to Work Day yesterday, Michelle Obama took questions from 170 children, ages 7 to 14. She later called the grilling her "first official press conference."

"They asked me a ton of questions," the first lady said, "and they were hard." So what did these intrepid, young reporters find out for us?

On her dream White House job: First lady. "I think I have the best job in the White House. I don't have to deal with the hard problems every day," she said. "Because I don't get paid, I get to do whatever I want."

The worst part of the White House: Running on the treadmill every morning.

On breaking the rules: "Every now and then I have this thing that I like to do with some of my staff members," she admitted, "we sneak out, without telling anybody, and we go and test out all the fun places to eat in DC. I went to Five Guys [the burger chain] and nobody knew it." An aid later amended that this didn't mean she went without the Secret Service. Too bad!

On no longer cooking: "I don't miss cooking," she said, "I'm just fine with other people cooking. Their food is really good."

Jury: Prof. Who Compared 9/11 Victims to Nazi Wrongly Fired

A jury ruled yesterday that Ward Churchill, a formerly tenured professor at the University of Colorado, was wrongly fired after he compared victims of Sept. 11 to Nazi leader Adolf Eichmann. The jury granted him just $1 in damages, and a judge will rule soon whether he should get his job back.

Following Sept. 11, Churchill wrote of those in the World Trade Center:

Let's get a grip here, shall we? True enough, they were civilians of a sort. But innocent? Gimme a break. They formed a technocratic corps at the very heart of America's global financial empire.

Once the essay came to light in 2005, Churchill came under fire. He eventually lost his job. The jury decided that the University of Colorado couldn't prove it would have fired him were it not for his political views. Officials had sited plagiarism and falsified research as reasons for the dismissal.

Do you think professors should be free to say such things and still keep their jobs?

You Asked: What Does He Mean by "Break"?

Dear Sugar,

My boyfriend and I have been together for five and half years. We've dated since high school and throughout college, but have also had some rough periods. This Summer he got accepted into a four-year pharmacy program in another city. Before he left, he dropped a bomb on me: He wanted to breakup. I was heartbroken but we talked before his move and he told me he always saw his future with me but wasn't sure if his feelings were strong enough presently to do long distance for the next eight months.

We decided to keep things open, but he's created an entirely new life and even though we talk every day, he says he feels single and he likes it. Still, he maintains that he wants to be with me eventually. His proposed solution was that we take a "break" until Christmas, when he will be home next, in hopes that he will realize that he wants to be with me 100 percent. He said that it would mean we would talk less and be able to see other people, which he said he had no intentions of doing.

I agreed on this break hoping that it would bring us together in the end. We decided to write a list of guidelines during this period in order to make the break work. When I mentioned to him one guideline I had - no fooling around with other people (going on dates was acceptable) - he became hesitant. I don't think that messing around with other people will solve our issues. So all this leads me to wonder exactly what he means by "break." Does he want to be single for now but knows that he will have me in the end? My definition of a break was to reassess our relationship and figure out if we want to be together in the future. I don't want to end up getting hurt in the end. Please help!

Dear Uncertain Ciara,

Although your boyfriend claims he has no intention of pursuing a physical relationship or otherwise with anyone during this break, it's clear to me that that's exactly what he has in mind. And even if he doesn't, I'm not sure how taking a break ruled by a set of guidelines rather than communication is going to help you two reevaluate your relationship. It sounds like your boyfriend is fairly certain that he doesn't want to be with you right now, and while he might see you in his future, if he's not willing to commit today or even tomorrow then I don't know how much that's worth.

Your boyfriend needs to understand that he doesn't get to string you along until it's convenient for him, and you're the one that's going to have to show him that via your actions. Don't be afraid to tell him that your not willing to wait around for him while he enjoys his freedom. It's important that he realizes what he's losing. If you've explained all this to him and he's still sure he doesn't want to be with you, then my advice is to take that for what it is and start moving on. Of course, things could work out later, but certainly don't count on it.
