Beer Goggles Do Exist!

I just came across an article on MSNBC from earlier this month and it gave me quite a chuckle. The headline reads, "Hot or not? Look again -'beer goggles' are real!" Scientists in England are proving that beer goggles do exist. They gave 84 heterosexual college students lime-flavored drinks that were either alcoholic or non-alcoholic, a large glass of wine, or a pint-and-a-half of beer. After the booze set in, the students were given 40 images of other male and female college students. This probably won't come as a surprise to you, but both the men and women who drank the alcohol found the pictures of both sexes to be more attractive. According to Marcus Munafo, an experimental psychologist at the University of Bristol in England, it was "a roughly 10 percent increase in ratings of attractiveness."

Since alcohol generally makes people see things as more attractive over all (amongst other things that will be examined further in a future study), Munafo suggests that when put in a social situation such as a bar, "this might become targeted at opposite-sex faces."
