This weekend in Fort Worth, TX, police raided a gay bar and arrested seven customers for public intoxication. Arresting people for being drunk in a bar sounds like a great use of police resources — there's obviously something more going on here. While the police say they were conducting a typical inspection when some customers made sexual advances toward them, the club owner says that's a lie.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs took his turn in the the dunk tank yesterday, during a Hawaiian luau for members of Congress and their families held at the White House. In honor of President Barack Obama's home state, the South Lawn was decorated with tiki torches and palm huts, and guests were treated to a meal prepared by famous Hawaiian chef Alan Wong.

"I am proud to join with and support the LGBT community in an effort to set our nation on a course that recognizes LGBT Americans with full equality under the law. That is why I support extending fully equal rights and benefits to same sex couples under both state and federal law. That is why I support repealing the Defense of Marriage Act and the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy, and the passage of laws to protect LGBT Americans from hate crimes and employment discrimination.

Ten-year-old Kennedy Corpus of Green Bay, WI, got a handwritten note from Barack Obama himself excusing her from missing her last day of school. Her father took her to the president's town hall-style meeting at Southwest High School yesterday and told Obama he hoped she wouldn't get in trouble. The note reads, "To Kennedy's teacher: Please excuse Kennedy's absence.

"The danger, I think, is when the United States, or any country, thinks that we can simply impose these values on another country with a different history and a different culture."
President Obama responded to the criticism he's received for his upcoming high-profile speech in Egypt, a country with few political freedoms. Obama told the BBC that although there are obvious human rights issues in the Middle East, it is not the US's job to lecture countries; instead, the US should lead by example and help countries embrace universal principles as part of their own national identities.

This morning President Obama nominated federal judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. Most of you said a while back that you would like to see a woman nominated to the highest court. Well you got your wish!
