Britney Spears Back-to-School Gear: Love It or Leave It?

It's back-to-school with Britney, b*tch!

Britney Spears's official website features bangles, laundry bags, and now, back-to-school products like a Top hat B-logo mouse pad for $10, a $30 laptop sleeve, and a $10 Britney-in-her-makeup chair on the Circus tour notebook. None of these items makes me want to hit the books - but I wouldn't mind watching Tim and Camillo dance to "Circus" again!

The products are described as if they're targeted to students and office workers ("it's perfect for school, the office"), but one wonders if anyone over 21 would really be interested in Britney Spears products, except for their camp/kitsch value? What about you?

Cheerleaders might stand on the sidelines, but that doesn't mean they get a timeout from injuries. A new study reveals that cheerleading causes the most serious sport injuries among high school and college athletes. Of course, these injuries aren't caused by overly-enthusiastic hand clapping - rather all that flipping, jumping, and running can result in sprained ankles and broken limbs.

So it seems that girls today can choose between being a jock, a cheerleader, or both. Did you show your school spirit back in the day?

Test Time! High School to Offer Free Pregnancy, STD Tests

In addition to math, science, and English exams, a New York high school is offering its students an even greater variety of tests: they will now have access to free and confidential pregnancy and STD tests.

Officials at Port Chester High School say they just want to offer students comprehensive health services. The school's clinic, run by Open Door, already offers immunizations, physicals, and vision and hearing tests. But some parents worry that the confidential nature of the STD and pregnancy tests will cut them out of their children's important health decisions. And the president of the school board, who opposes the plan, says it will turn the school into a quasi-maternity clinic.

Now that Labor Day weekend is over, the back-to-school wave is underway. And even if you’re not headed back to academia, you can’t miss the change in the air as lifestyles shift from Summer to Fall. For some, this time can bring on a wave of nostalgia, while others shudder at the thought of walking back into a classroom.

For obvious reasons, high school seems to be the most polarizing of school years, with experiences ranging from gleeful to painfully awkward so where do your feelings about high school fall?

Gender Roles - Love 'Em Or Leave 'Em?

Here's a poll from OnSugar blog Rantings of a Single Girl.

Let's go back to the 1940s for a minute. My grandmother was married, raised a kid, ran a farm, taught school, and kept a clean house. All while my grandfather was away at war. After my grandfather came back from the war and had recovered from his wounds, they went back into their traditional roles. He ran the farm and did all the "manly" things. My grandmother raised my aunt, taught school, and still had dinner on the table by 5:30 PM every night. All while pregnant with my dad.

I'm exhausted just talking about it.

I bring all this up because I've been thinking about gender roles lately. I look at my parents. Granted, my dad still does majority of the "manly'" things around the house and my mom does the household things, neither one is afraid to help out the other. My dad does housework. My mom can swing a hammer when needed.

And that's what I like.

I'll never be able to date a guy who believes in traditional gender roles. As much as I like cooking and being in the kitchen, I don't like being expected to be there. If we have kids, I'm not going to be the one who raises them. I certainly expect their father to help out. At the same time, I don't expect him the only one who takes out the trash or fixes things when they break. I think 50/50 is a good blend.

So could you be with someone who firmly believes in traditional gender roles? Or would you rather share the load?
