Ageism in Hollywood effects women much more profoundly than men, but that doesn't mean our famous leading men don't feel the pressure and sting of being under the microscope. Sadly, the fellas are turning to cosmetic surgery, too, in hopes of preserving their youth, but it always seems to backfire.

Douchebag of the Day: Billy Bob Thornton

Waitresses who want to model. Models who want to act. Actors who want to sing. Is anyone happy doing the jobs they're in? Whatever the case, the actor-turned-wannabe-singer seems to be one of the douchiest strains of these hybrids. Take Billy Bob Thornton. I had no idea that this guy was a singer, musician, and according to him in this cringe-inducing interview he did with his band the Boxmasters - a "music historian."

Whatever Billy Bob might be, he's officially Douchebag Supremo in my book. Why? He gets furious with the affable and patient interviewer Jian Ghomeshi because Jian introduced him as an actor. His reaction? He stonewalls all Jian's questions with, "I don't know what you're talking about." His band looks embarrassed and miserable, he looks crazy, the interviewer looks baffled, and if you could see me - I look like I want to throw my shoe at the computer. Ugh! Quit taking yourself so seriously, Billy Bob. (Click here if you're a masochist and want to see BBT in all his DB glory for like 10 minutes.)

Which Male Celeb Would You Want Your Baby to Resemble?

A Southern California sperm bank has taken to matching its donors to the celebrities they most resemble as a way to distinguish their sperm library, if you will. So if you want your child to resemble a movie star, sports hero, or world leader, the California Cryobank just might have the genes you're looking for.

“It’s not that our donors look like celebrities," said California Cryobank’s communication manager Scott Brown, "it’s that celebrities look like our donors.” Mmm kay . . .

Bioethicists think that it's bad enough that "rigid types of beauty" already reign in culture, but now, as University of Albany professor Bonnie Steinbock says, "They're trying to create children through who the actor of the moment is." Yes, yes they are.

Whether or not you agree with Cryobank or with Professor Steinbock, just for fun, tell me which famous dude you'd want your brood to look like?

Does the Media Keep Actors in the Closet?

According to several A-List actors, there is a very obvious bias in Hollywood and they say it’s against hiring homosexuals. In an exclusive interview to be released next week, Alan Cumming - one of the stars of X-Men 2 - said that actors are more timid about coming out because of the way the press portrays homosexuality - they fear the controversy. “I don’t think the people that go see films care that much – the media make it more of a deal and it’s made into controversy. There is a lot of homophobia in the world – but in Hollywood definitely.”

Stephen Fry and Rupert Everett who have both claimed a homosexual preference also complained that they are now pigeonholed. Derek Munn, director of public affairs for Stonewall, a group that promotes equality and justice for gay people said: “The pitifully low number of openly lesbian or gay actors suggests that there is a problem. The film industry needs to think about why it is gay actors choose not to come out.”

Rent-a-Friend Business Booming in Japan

One of my favorite episodes of How I Met Your Mother involves Barney and his hired "family." The eternal playboy (played by Neil Patrick Harris) wants his mother to think he has settled down, so he pays actors to play his wife and son, concocts an elaborate backstory with details including his son's "catch phrase," and plays along for years every time he visits his mother with his fake family in tow.

Well apparently, Japan has turned this sitcom plot into a reality. Japanese rent-a-friend companies allow people to pay for pretend friends, relatives, work colleagues, or even best men! Sometimes single mothers hire fake husbands so kids stop bullying their children at school for having absent fathers!

Just like Barney's family, the "agents" are trained to know an extensive backstory. If rentees give any hint that they're aren't really the people they're pretending to be, it could mess up the clients' lives. Creepy! Apparently the need to look like everything is perfect in your life is so important in Japan that some people are willing to rent these actor-CIA-agent hybrids for about $250 per appearance.

While it might be tempting to hire a stand-in boyfriend for awkward situations, like when you're the only single girl invited to a dinner party filled with couples, this still seems strange to me. What do you think?

Do, Dump, or Marry? Matt Damon

Matt Damon, 2007's Sexiest Man Alive, is starring in The Informant!, which opens this weekend. Matt fans won't be seeing a familiar face (or body) when they show up to the theater, though. The actor had to gain 30 lbs. for the character, which he describes as "the Sexiest Man Alive's chunky cousin."

In addition to being an actor, Matt is a husband, dad, humanitarian, and outspoken citizen. If you remember, he made his support for Barack Obama very well known last year. What do you make of him?
