President-elect Barack Obama has topped Barbara Walters's list of the Most Fascinating People of 2008. The ABC special aired last night, and last year the honor of Most Fascinating Person went to Harry Potter author JK Rowling. While many people probably agree that Obama is the most fascinating figure of the year, it's somewhat surprising that his opponent John McCain did not make the list.

Will Smith says that Barack Obama is only the second political figure he has ever thrown his support behind — the first being Nelson Mandela (Will just helped celebrate Mandela's 90th birthday). BBC got the details about the actor's endorsement, while Will was in London promoting his new film this week.
On why he supports Obama: "I travel around the world a lot, and I was kind of used to people being happy when the Americans showed up.

Last night's Alfred Smith Dinner put on by Catholic Charities was exactly what we all needed to get through the last 18 days of this grueling election. After months/years of pretending to live in an alternate universe where their talking points define reality, Barack Obama and John McCain not only acknowledged the headlines we've all been reading, but did so with a dose of self-deprecating, and opponent-deprecating, humor. While it was swell to see the candidates having fun, I was most excited that I got to laugh at this campaign, rather than sigh in disbelief, frustration, or suspense.

I've hesitated to post Trish Walsh-Smith's rants in part because just being crazy doesn't cut it these days. But then I saw this music video she put out for her "song" called "I'm Going Bonkers," and well, girlfriend officially earned her 15 minutes of fame. Enjoy!

No one said you can't ask artists tough questions during Q & A, but to ask a director like Kevin Smith (Clerks, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back) if he's going to make an original film that "doesn't suck," well, you're gonna get what's coming to you. Including references to your man boobs. (But hey, leave his mom out of this!) Ouch...

A stone carving of President Obama is on sale in Shanghai, China, along with carvings of celebrities like Will Smith, Tom Cruise, and Katie Holmes. Obama will be meeting with both ordinary citizens and Chinese leaders in Shanghai and Beijing starting today. As you can tell from these photos, creative vendors in China are ready to capitalize on Obama's visit.

Smith Magazine, inspired by a challenge Ernest Hemingway was once given to write his memoir in six words, has been inviting readers to do the same since 2006. I recently checked out their website and found the following six-word memoir quite poignant: "Paying off student loans with unemployment."
