Have you or your honey been less than excited to get busy lately? If so, don't start popping Cialis or Levitra pills just yet. A quick trip to the produce aisle or your local farmers' market to pick up some juicy, sweet watermelon could do the trick, and no, this is not a joke! Researchers at Texas A&M are reporting that the ingredient in watermelon known as citrulline may help to increase a person's libido. When you consume watermelon, citrulline is converted to arginine, which is an amino acid that benefits your heart and circulatory system. Arganine also boosts levels of nitric oxide in your body, which helps to relax blood vessels, much like Viagra does. Consuming this fruit may even prevent erectile dysfunction. It seems that the rind has higher concentrations of citrulline, so scientists are working on developing a variety of watermelon that has higher concentrations in the pink fleshy part.

I'm in full support of anything that puts you in the mood for love so have a slice (or 12) of watermelon this holiday weekend! Enjoy!

Watermelon-Eating Dog Provokes Stabbing

I'm tired as I write this, but I think that even if I were of sound mind and body, this would still make no sense. Apparently, a Boston dude stabbed himself "to prove to his brother he wasn't afraid of pain," according to police. A lot of other weird shit happens after that, and the writer of this news story seems intent on pinning it on the watermelon-eating dog (not pictured above) with the seemingly innocent words "helped cause" as in, "A dog eating a watermelon helped cause a Boston man to repeatedly stab himself..." Click here to read a news story that becomes more baffling the more you read, and please let me know if you can make heads or tails (hehe) of it. In the meantime, I say, don't blame the doggie!

That's because they haven't witnessed what is the event of the season: the Guinea Pig Watermelon Eating Party. (Clothing optional!) All you have to do is bring your cute little muzzle, some funny noises, and lots of enthusiasm. Hopefully, I can crash the next one. . .

What Was Your Worst Summer Job?

Before we all get the fabulous jobs that express our personalities and true abilities - we often have to suck it up in crap jobs.

Yes, they help us build character. Yes, we learn how to budget small amounts of money, learning the valuable fiscal lesson that no amount of saving will buy us a trip to Paris and allow us to purchase our dream wardrobes on a part-time, minimum-wage salary. And the most important lesson of all is we learn how to be employees - dealing with annoying bosses, rude customers, and weird co-workers.

I wore many hats as a teen. I served cocktails (yes, you can do that legally in Texas even if you're not old enough to drink); I slaved in a fast-food joint; and I cashiered behind the counter of a fancy French bakery. (There, I picked up two habits - one which I still have, the other which I've rid myself of: the desire for strong coffee, and the ability to smoke an unfiltered Gitane cigarette. Ouch!)

The worst Summer job I ever had? Grocery bagger. I accidentally smashed children's fingers, forgot people's food in their shopping carts (trust me, I still remember the unhappy woman who returned to retrieve her forgotten watermelon), and worst of all, I endured the hot sun on my delicate skin. I lasted a day. What was your worst summer job?

Product of the Day: Zit Poppers Candy

I wonder if I can get this Zit Poppers Candy in time to hand out to the kiddies on Halloween. Basically, you pretend to pop them and the "bloody candy ooze" (their words, not mine) that comes out has a wonderful strawberry or watermelon flavor. Even better than the disgusting look of the candies is the write-up for this product: "Each insane box of Zit Poppers Candy contains 3.25 ounces of candy zits. That's approximately 16 zits. Presidential Election Mailers Can Get Ugly

Messages based on fear have been getting out via mailers lately. The Republican Party of Virginia has sent out an ad that says "American must look evil in the eye and never flinch." It features an almost unrecognizable picture of Osama bin Laden, in which the skin is darker, the beard lighter, and the nose covered by words. Obama supporters worry that the Virginia GOP, whose chair compared Obama to Osama bin Laden recently, manipulated the picture to resemble Barack.

Over in North Carolina, the Republican National Committee sent residents a controversial mailer. On a page next to a prominent white hand with its hand over its heart, are the words "It used to be easy to recognize patriotism."

And perhaps the most blatantly inappropriate, and most obscure, anti-Obama pamphlet comes from the Chaffey Community Republican Women Federated in Southern California. The group sent a newsletter to 200 members, which contained an image of Barack Obama surrounded by a bucket of KFC chicken, watermelon, ribs, and Kool Aid, with the words: "Obama talks about all those presidents that got their names on bills. If elected, what bill would he be on????? Food Stamps, what else!"

Are critics of these ads being overly sensitive, or is there reason for concern? Can these attitudes impact the election, or will there always be extreme, yet inconsequential, fringe groups.
