Whoa, Nelly. There's a two-month waiting list to get these freaky cool "digilegs." I am trying to imagine how they would come in handy. In horse races when you're one horse short? Medieval centaur role-playing at the local RenFaire? Perhaps to drive away friends, family, and prospective dates with your weirdness? It's anyone's guess.

Beatrice Arthur (1922-2009)

I remember being on the subway one day eavesdropping on a conversation. A man in his early 20s was telling a woman he was with that when he was younger, no show could annoy his father more than the pioneering '70s show Maude, starring Bea Arthur, who passed away April 25 at the age of 87.

Bea Arthur's character, Maude, was the polar opposite of her television cousin, subservient Edith Bunker of All in the Family. No wonder your average man would feel threatened by Maude - she identified as a feminist (a first for television?), she had a commanding, sarcastic manner, and she didn't suffer fools gladly. Maude, the show, tackled issues like abortion, the Vietnam War, and divorce.

Arthur went on to reprise her popularity as an icon (this time, as a hip older woman) in the more lighthearted (but no less feminist) series The Golden Girls, beloved by women and gay men alike. In the following video, she shows she continued to be a badass by starring in a geriatric version of Sex and the City, which, if you think of it, was simply the younger-woman version of The Golden Girls! Talented, tough, funny - and not above making fun of herself. You will be missed, Bea!

Flashback: The First Episode of Charlie's Angels

There's a lot of awesomely weird stuff going on in the opening bit for the first episode of Charlie's Angels. First off, the disembodied voice of patriarchy, aka Charlie, calls his on-call private investigators "three little girls." (Oh, yeah, he also calls them all his "angels.")

My favorite part of this '70s fantasy, though, is that before Charlie phones Sabrina, Jill, and Kelly to tell them to report to their PI jobs, they're playing tennis, horseback riding, and lounging by the pool. Where can I sign up for some freelance angel work? This job sounds amazing.

This commercial gets off to an unimpressive start - take a look at that rat hole they call a warehouse - and it only gets worse from there. "I say, I say, I say" are Frankie and Johnnie selling furniture, dance lessons, or fried chicken? Bad dancing belongs in every low-budget commercial, but I'm still trying to connect the dots between furniture and fried chicken- buy a couch, get a grease stain for free?

There was a time (late '80s, early '90s?) when collecting tiny stuffed animals called Beanie Babies was all the rage. Nothing seemed strange about little girls collecting them, but grown women and men (!), particularly men wearing Hawaiian shirts and bragging about how many Beanies they had . . . that's a little weird.
