Baby Fight Club (It's Cuter Than You Think)

Leave it to a bunch of dudes to think taking their toddlers to Baby Fight Club for one-on-one sparring is an acceptable afternoon excursion. Lovely. But no matter what they do to make their babies appear macho - pretending to serve up a hearty bowl of nuts and bolts is just low, I might add - the little tykes are too cute to ever be intimidating. Maybe it's the droopy diapers?

The '80s marked the launch and rise of MTV, so it's no surprise that Wendy's used a music video to train their new employees back in the day. The vid is surprisingly informative, despite the distraction of singing meat patties and the use of a spatula as an electric guitar. The rapping is awful-ly good, but why is this charbroiled bozo wearing sequins in the kitchen? Now that's unforgivable.

If you are a dog owner or are close with someone who is, you know how annoying it can be when your dog jumps on you when you walk through the door. Since dogs are such social animals, it's no wonder they want to be a part of the excitement, but jumping up on people can be quite irritating, not to mention unsafe so here are some tips to help prevent that behavior.

Jumping is unfortunately encouraged when dogs are puppies. It's always fun and cute to see a little 10 pound pup get excited, jump on you and lick your face, but when that behavior is learned at a young age, it's hard to break the habit, so discourage jumping as much as possible from the get go
Be sure to have everyone that comes in contact with your puppy be on the same page as your training ideals. If you aren't allowing your dog to jump on you, make sure your friends and family members don't either
When your dog does jump, grab a hold of his paws until he struggles to stand on his hind legs. After a few seconds, release his paws while saying the command OFF
Dogs learn with reward, so after you sternly say your command, commend your puppy with a treat so he or she will associate having all four paws on the ground as "good behavior"
When praising your dog for staying down, get on his or her level. Give your reward at eye level so you can reinforce your appreciation for good behavior on his or her level
Consistency is key when training any animal. Of course it's fun to see your dog get excited to see you, but if you are wishy washy with your rules, it will just confuse your dog
If you want your dog to greet you in another way when you come home, train him to shake. It's a great way to have interaction with your dog without him jumping on you or your guests

Two Train Crashes: Two train crashes happened within hours of each other in Chicago and Boston yesterday. In Chicago, an elevated train derailed, leaving several people hurt. Then during rush hour in Boston two commuter trains collided and derailed killing the train driver and leaving several passengers injured. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the Boston crash. The 24-year-old driver died when one train slammed into the back of another.

US Economy Grows: The Commerce Department reported today that economic growth was measured at a 0.9 percent growth rate. The growth was a slightly better pace in the first quarter, though still weak and hindered by cautious consumers hurt by housing, credit and financial problems. The growth was an improvement from the government’s initial estimate for the first quarter as well as the economy’s performance in the final quarter of last year - both saw 0.6 percent growth rate.
Suicide Bomb Kills 16 in Iraq: A suicide bomber detonated today in a crowd of police recruits in northwestern Iraq, killing at least 16 and wounding 14 others. The blast occurred in Sinjar, the town that also saw a series of suicide truck bombings that killed an estimated 500 people. No responsibility has been claimed for the latest attack, though some suspect al-Qaida in Iraq, backing up Iraqi claims that insurgents have fled to remote areas to escape a US-Iraqi offensive currently in Mosul, about 74 miles east of Sinjar.

Jeremiah Wright Speaks: Rev. Jeremiah Wright is speaking at the National Press Club this morning. Over the weekend, Wright spoke in Detroit making it clear that he was "running for Jesus," not public office. His message this weekend and this morning is that Americans should know by now that "different does not mean deficient" when it comes to the African-American church and that the controversy over his "God damn America" remarks stems from misunderstanding. He said yesterday, "I come from a religious tradition that does not divorce the world we are living in with the world we are headed to. The black religious tradition is different. We do it a different way."

Train Collision in China: A collision early this morning between two passenger trains traveling through rural Eastern China killed 66 people and injured 247, and 51 of the injured are in critical condition. The incident is one of the deadliest rail accidents in China in a decade. Officials said that at the moment of impact the trains were traveling at full speed and most of the passengers were asleep.
Children Dead in Gaza: In Northern Gaza, a mother and her four young children are among at least seven Palestinians killed during an Israeli raid. The children were between one and six years old. The family members were killed in their home from a missile strike aimed at an area often used by Palestinian militants to launch rockets at Israel. Last Friday, the Palestinian Islamist movement, Hamas, advocated for a six-month "period of quiet" in Gaza, offering to extend it to the West Bank. Israel dismissed the proposal as a ruse to allow Hamas to "re-arm and re-group".

Monkey & Dog Team Take The Train

The question is: can the monkey get them there? This will not only amaze, but amuse you. Some Overweight People Are Calling For a Law to Protect Them

Overt racism is not tolerated in most places, but fatism is flourishing in our society. Many overweight people say that the normal rules of decency and common courtesy don't seem to apply to them, and they're trying to organize a new rights movement.

In a news article yesterday, the BBC recounted the plight of an overweight train passenger who was beaten up by another commuter for taking up two seats. The aggressor yelled "you big fat pig" before she kicked the victim in the stomach. In addition to suffering verbal and physical abuse, overweight people who are speaking out say they are victims of systemic discrimination. For example, many airline companies in the US now charge larger passengers for two seats. Such a policy is considered illegal discrimination in Canada, where there is a one-person-one-fare law. The US has no such rule, nor is there a federal law forbidding employers from firing people because of their weight. (Michigan is alone in prohibiting employers from firing people for being overweight.)

Last year, a study from Yale revealed that weight discrimination is tolerated because many believe that people have control over their size. The truth is more complicated. Economics, health issues like type 2 diabetes, and genetics can affect a person's weight.

The study also revealed that overweight women are twice as vulnerable to discrimination than overweight men. If you want to find out if you have implicit biases against overweight people take this quiz developed by Harvard researchers. You might be surprised by the results.
