Were you glued to your TV last night like I was, watching the season premiere of Top Chef? This show is one of my favorites, and I've always thought it'd be a great one to watch with a significant other. Unlike most reality shows, its main focus is on the craft - the food - and the drama that follows is just the icing on the cake!

Food can be a great focal point when you're in a relationship. Not only is it fun to cook together, but sharing certain foods can also bring an element of flirtation to a relationship, whether you're dining in or eating out. Does food play an important role in your relationship?

Fireman Dresses as Spider-Man to Save Boy - After an autistic boy in Thailand climbed to a third-floor balcony and dangled his foot off the edge, a firefighter put on a Spider-Man costume to rescue him.
Toilet Chef Causes Prison Evacuation - An inmate in Washington state decided to cook sausages in his stainless steel toilet, only to cause a fire. The unit was evacuated.
Woman Arrested Three Times in Three Days For DUI - A woman vacationing in Wisconsin was arrested three times in three days for drinking. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $3,000.

OMG: It's International Nachos Day!

You'd think the self-described Queen of Nachos would just know in her gut about the following, but alas, this is how I was informed that it was International Nachos Day. A transcript of this morning's Blackberry text messages, verbatim:

CasaSugar: Do you know what today is? It is the day that nachos were supposedly invented!

GiggleSugar: Holy crap!!! I am on it.

So without further ado, the legend of how nachos were born: 65 years ago, a genius maitre d' named Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya (perhaps my firstborn son's name?), was just doing his thing at a restaurant in Piedras Negras, Mexico near the Texas border. As legend has it, some Americans came in right after the chef had stepped out, so ol' Nacho Anaya whipped up a tasty treat of chips and cheese melted under the broiler - with some spicy jalepenos thrown on top just to be jaunty. And there you have it, my friends, the story of nachos. Celebrate this hallowed day, Oct. 21, by eating a pile of cheesy chips and saluting its inventor! I know I will. Julia Child Was a Spy:
Newly released files show that famous chef Julia Child was a World War-II era spy. The CIA declassified 35,000 top-secret personnel files that detailed the huge spy network run by the OSS, which later became the CIA. Former OSS agents are pleased with the release of the information, a list which includes other notables like Ernest Hemingway's and Teddy Roosevelt's sons.

Inflation Hits Major High:
Consumer prices rose at twice the rate expected to post the fastest rate of growth in 17 years. Costlier energy and food made the Consumer Price Index balloon. Food alone is six percent more expensive than a year ago.

Lebanon Bombing Kills 15:
A briefcase bomb detonated in a bus packed with Lebanese soldiers on their way to work, killing 15 and wounding more than 40 people. The bombing distracted from the news from Damascus that Syria and Lebanon were to establish diplomatic relations for the first time since both won their independence from France in the 1940s. The bombing is the deadliest attack in Lebanon in more than three years.

Cute Alert: Albino Squirrel Eats Peanuts

Izzy, the albino squirrel, has a factory line of peanuts to nibble through and he's up to the task. Watch him pounce on each nut, shake it to hear the goodies inside then crack away at the outer shell like a pro. This is like a Top Chef quickfire challenge - only nuttier.

Ultimate Tablecloth Swiping

Forget "Top Chef." Folks in Japan prefer a little more spin on the culinary game show concept. Who cares if contestants can cook-can they swipe a tablecloth without disturbing a diner's place setting? Priorities, people. As for the guy dressed in a bow tie and Speedo in the last thirty seconds of the vid, you'll see that he's not just a waiter. He's an entertainer, too.
