Does Food Play a Role in Your Relationship?
Nov 13 2008 - 11:00am Were you glued to your TV last night like I was, watching the season premiere of Top Chef? This show is one of my favorites, and I've always thought it'd be a great one to watch with a significant other. Unlike most reality shows, its main focus is on the craft — the food — and the drama that follows is just the icing on the cake!

Every other week, my boyfriend and I go to a new exotic restaurant and try something new. We've discovered a lot of new favorites.

And we both love to cook. Sometimes it turns into a little competition, who's the better cook. It doesn't work, though, because we're biased!

I adore food and im usually thinking about dinner during breakfast Sticking out tongue so yes, it does. We usually "tag" each other via email every work day so that the first one to do it has to come up with whats for dinner for the night...I also love cooking with him! Shrimp Scampi will not be the same if I had to make it by myself Sticking out tongue

Absolutely. Trying new foods, farmer's markets, cooking together...Food is actually one of the biggest things that we have in common. Here's hoping that when we have kids, they're not picky eaters!

YEP and I'm proud of it. I cook a lot at home and we love good food. Though I'm more and more tempting to go all organic cause the more i know about food the more it puts me off.

Yes, I have turned my bf into a foodie and broadened his palette. We go out to dinner at least 3 times a week and love trying new restaurants. Plus, I love love love cooking his favorite foods for him and teaching him how to cook (he's still working on the very basics).

Food has definitely played a fun role in our relationship.

It does but not really in a good way. My husband is not a big fan of food in general, sounds weird right? He hates cooking, if cooking were left up to him he'd eat microwavable food or canned ravioli's everyday and I'm not exaggerating. He hates vegetables with the exception of the potato... which is really more of a carb in my opinion.

I have gotten him to appreciate steak houses but he HATES trying anything new. I've been dying to go for dim sum or pho or thai food and he refuses. I do claim one small victory though, I have gotten him to eat sushi and although he is very picky and rarely in he mood, he'll eat Californian rolls and spicy tuna.

In stark contrast I love food, I love to cook and I love to try new things. My dad works in the food and wine industry so I grew up eating all kinds of different things and his love of cooking is one good thing I got from him. I however can barely stand to cook anymore, since everything he'll eat is boring and bland.

Our relationship was built on a mutual love of the original Iron Chef show, haha. Today, I cook a lot and he enjoys eating what I cook. It's a great way for us to connect... deciding what to make, getting the ingredients, making the food, and eating it. It's a great bonding activity.

Hell Yeah! Food plays an aspect in every part of my life, LOL. I love to cook, and loove to eat!! We go out to dinner a lot, and cook for each other whenever we have time. My boy LOVES watching me pig out on my favorite foods, and I love to cook for him too, because he's one of those guys who will eat just about anything, and lots of it! So I get to cook things that I like for both of us, since I have a little more discriminating taste

Well, I think it's fun to try new restaurants and types of food, but we don't do a lot of that so far.

Food is absolutely essential in my relationship though b/c my bf can't have any dairy products, he is allergic, which means no milk chocolate also!! He is also deathly allergic to peanuts....as in, I can't even eat anything with peanuts and kiss him, or he starts getting an allergic reaction.

So he can't have most candy (milk chocolate), peanuts, or ice cream, or cake, or chocolate milk, or mashed potatoes. He even has to buy special hot dogs without dairy products. You wouldn't believe how many things have dairy. So yeah, it matter to us.

In my past relationships I've found that yes, food is huge. When both of you live at home, going out on a date that involves speaking to each other usually involves food, just because there aren't many other places where you can just sit and chat in the evenings.

I have found that guys of my age are very much eat and go types. I'm not sure if it's their background and family habits, whether it's more their age, or even a cultural thing, but I do know that my family make meals into a lot more of an event.. There is a lot more sitting and talking, rather than eating in silence. But that's me!

So... I think that food makes a very important component of a relationship, and I also think that it SHOULD. I think it's a nice way to bond.

I've cooked with boyfriends also, and that's a nice experience too, if they're into cooking.

I'm in a minority here. No, food is not a focal point in our marriage. We eat together, and dine-out together. However, for us, during our meals, it's about enjoying each others company, and having good conversations. That's what brings us together, not the food.

Food is very important with us. He's a chef and I'm a foodie, so we revolve around food. Even now that we are at a distance, we still talk about food all the time! I can't think of anything I would rather do in the world than watch him cook a meal, or bring a French style picnic with wine to the park and lay around talking and reading on a lazy Saturday. I really miss living near him! Hopefully it won't be too much longer...

I've turned him into a foodie, he actually will sit willingly and watch the Food Network. We both like to cook together as well, downside is we've both gained 10lbs for me and 25lbs for him since we've been together (between restaurants, cooking ourselves and dinner parties)... Yikes! We've now moved on to the diet phase which should be interesting for the holidays.
