It's called "tooth archery" and it just might be the only hunting sport where the "victim" prospers by emerging tooth free, ache free, and a couple bucks richer. (In fact, it leaves us all a couple bucks richer!)

Dear Sugar
I know I seem completely vain, but I recently had my left front bicuspid tooth pulled. Basically it's the tooth right behind the "fang" tooth and is visible when I grin. I'm left with a gaping hole where it once was and it is quite depressing.

I used to be known for my warm smile and now my smile is hideous. I didn't think it was going to look this terrible, but the hole is enormous. I am definitely afraid of what my boyfriend and friends are going to think when they see me.

I am trying to look on the bright side of things. I know this isn't the end of the world, but because it's so evident I can't help but feel down. At the moment, I really can't afford a tooth replacement, so I'm wondering if there are any alternatives that you know about? Toothless Thalia

I don't think you are vain, your smile is out there for the world to see and it is perfectly understandable for you to feel uncomfortable about your mouth right now. The good news is that there are in fact a few options out there for you to decide between.

If you can't afford a dental implant right now, you can get a temporary bite plate made with a tooth attached to it. This is called a flipper and what it will do is mask the hole until you can save up for a permanent tooth. However, this will still cost between $300-$400.
You can get a bridge, since this tooth falls between two teeth, but this is going to be more expensive than both a flipper or an implant.
Ideally, the best solution is for you to get an implant and an abutment with a crown on top. This will cost you around $1,600. You can pay for this in two installments though if that helps you out any since this two step process requires at least a two visit minimum. Also, many teaching hospitals such as NYU, will do it much cheaper if you allow a supervised intern or resident to perform the task.

My boyfriend told me about his fetish last night.

Try this for him just once and keep an open mind. You are correct in thinking that you need to nurture his candor with you - so don't mock him or make fun of him.

Try it and see what happens. It could even be fun. But you definitely have the right to draw the line somewhere. If he asks you to do something to or with the heels that you don't want to do, just say NO.

When you are finished with this experiment, judge the experience. If you think he's too much of a pervert for you, then you've got legitimate grounds for breaking up over sex...but if he's just being honest and likes how a beautiful shoe makes a woman's leg look, give him a break and indulge him!

There are a lot of worse fetishes out there. Did you know some men would pay to have a special lady friend pull their tooth out with no novocain?
