Would You Line Up For a Bridal Gown Sweep?

If you caught the Today show this morning, you probably saw every soon-to-be bride on a budget in New York City bombard Filene's Basement. Women were lined up since the early morning hours to get their hands on discounted, nonrefundable bridal gowns. And the women came prepared - they brought team members, walkie-talkies and whistles, and plans to divide and conquer the room of brand new gowns to get the right dress in the right size.

In this economy, bargain shopping is a must, but racing to snatch the gown of your dreams almost takes the excitement out of it. Since I'm not in the market for a wedding dress, I don't know how to answer this one. So tell me ladies, would you go through the trouble to get your dress on sale? Or would you rather pay a little more to have a relaxing, memorable experience?

Sarah Palin Hits the Postelection Interview Circuit

TV journalists have been striking the Sarah Palin iron while it's hot. Last night FOX News aired Palin's first postelection interview, after Greta van Susteren traveled to Alaska to debrief with Palin. And this morning, Sarah's chat with Matt Lauer aired on the Today show.

Speaking with Greta, Palin indicated that she would leave the decision to run for president in 2012 up to God. She said:

Faith is a very big part of my life. And putting my life in my creator's hands - this is what I always do. I'm like, OK, God, if there is an open door for me somewhere, this is what I always pray, I'm like, don't let me miss the open door. . . . And if there is an open door in (20)12 or four years later, and if it is something that is going to be good for my family, for my state, for my nation, an opportunity for me, then I'll plow through that door.

And regardless of her propositions for 2012, Palin believes the 2008 campaign trail wrapped up without any bitter loose ends. She told Matt Lauer this morning that: “I have nothing but honor and admiration and love for him and for his family. And I think that that is mutual. In fact, I talked to him just today, again - and [we’re] touching base nearly every day."

Now that the election is one week behind us, do you think we can put Sarah Palin behind, or has her time in the spotlight just begun?

Gaffe or Straight Talk: When Troops Return Not Too Important

The ghosts of presidential elections past are coming out of the dark to go back and forth about John McCain's latest quote on Iraq. Let's check out the exchange.

On the Today show Matt Lauer asked McCain if he had a better estimate of when the troops will come home. McCain said:

No, but that's not too important. What's important is the casualties in Iraq.

Former Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry responded saying:

It is unbelievably out of touch and inconsistent with the needs of Americans and particularly the families of troops who are over there. To them it’s the most important thing in the world when they come home.

And let's not leave out former Dem veep nominee Joe Lieberman, who said:

The attacks on Senator McCain this morning [are] another partisan attempt to distort John McCain’s words, to distract the American people from the fact that McCain has been both courageous and right about the surge in Iraq, and Barack Obama has unfortunately been consistently wrong.

Click here for a roundup of other reactions to the comment. Even if McCain's interview is not so bad, he's already had to spend time explaining away his "100 years" in Iraq comment. It still remains to be seen whether the "not too important" line will help him contextualise his stance, or simply provide useful fodder for Obama supporters.

Leslie Nielsen from the awesome comedy Airplane! reunited with his cast members on the Today show. But it was hard to focus on what people were saying (Leslie included) because of the fart sounds. As Best Week Ever asked, does Leslie carry a fart machine around with him? Who among us is cool enough to do that? No one.

Who really needs a moral to the story, after all? What we really need is a reminder that the morning show we're already watching is numero uno. I think we got it.
