Is there something wrong with me? I understand the gist of this ad (no matter how well-spoken you are, stained clothes will detract from a good impression), but I was trying to figure out what language that stain was speaking. German? Swedish? Esperanto? Help me out, people.

Did you know one in seven women avoid the beach during their period? PR firm Labresse does! That's why it dropped tampons in pink parachutes down on Dutch beaches. Too bad its audience stayed home because of the high tides that day.

Don't worry if you can't watch the video. Unless you speak Dutch, you won't understand a word. You really don't need to! Parachuted tampons descending on a beach like medicine to a remote village is universally weird.

No Place Like Home: Ike Victims May Not Get OK to Rebuild

A latent Texas law may keep beachfront homeowners from rebuilding after Hurricane Ike's devastation. Texas's 1959 Open Beaches Act prohibits private homes on public beaches. Whether a beach is public depends on tide lines, which can be upset by hurricanes like Ike. Thus, homes previously located on private property may end up on the wrong side of the law.

Even worse, the owners may not know for up to a year whether or not the state has condemned their land due to the status of the beach. If they finally receive the bad news, there will be no compensation from the state.

As for other immediate concerns, Gulf Coast hospitals are struggling to restore healthcare services, and millions of residents still lack power. The two issues are actually interrelated, as power outages have caused Texas clinics to stay closed.

It sounds like life as usual might still be far off for many Texans.

You Asked: How Do I Kick My Roommate Out?

Dear Sugar,

My roommate moved to Seattle (my town) from Indiana at the end of June after I had secured a lease on an apartment. We had never met before, except online through a mutual hobby. She moved in time to go to an interview for a job she did not end up getting. A month went by before she found work, leaving me to pay the rent in its entirety, with the agreement that she'd pay me back once she found a job. Meanwhile, as she sat at home looking for a job all day, she did nothing to clean the apartment. I would come home from work, do the dishes, clean up the place, make dinner, and then go to bed. Rinse, repeat.

She finally got a job, and then lost it three weeks later. This was not her fault, but regardless, it has been three weeks since she lost her job and she still does not have another. Not even a minimum wage job to tide her over until she finds a web design job she wants. And yet again, she fails to do anything around the apartment.

I can't stand the fact that I'm living with someone I find to be irresponsible. In addition to the lack of cleaning, lack of job, and lack of ability to pay rent on time, I hate her dog. I walk in every night and the dog is all over me. She doesn't do anything to stop it, so I always feel like the bad guy for disciplining it. We are both on the lease. I've already inquired about switching roommates and the landlord said it wouldn't be a problem, but how do I tell her I want her out? She has no money and no job, but I'm simply miserable! - At My Wits End Emma

Yikes, your situation really does sound miserable. While I understand helping your roommate once, there's absolutely no reason why you should be carrying the weight yet again, so it's time to put your foot down and be firm with her. Everyone knows it's a difficult time to find a job, but she's a grown adult who should have planned for this, or at least gotten a part-time job in the meantime so she can pay her share of the bills.

This woman has not been taking your feelings into consideration, and while I don't feel that two wrongs make a right, I think you should concentrate on yourself right now. Your home needs to be a place where you're comfortable, and your roommate has to be someone you trust and who respects your living space; she clearly doesn't fit that model.

If I were you, I'd just be honest with her. Tell her that it's simply not working out and you no longer want to live together. If she puts up a stink, be aware that you might be the one that has to move since both your names are on the lease. Regardless of who gets the actual apartment, it's very clear that you two are not meant to be roommates. In order to salvage your relationship (if you even want to), I suggest you broach the subject as soon as possible, because something has got to give! Good luck.

Mexico's Prisoners Struggle and AIDS Drops in Malawi by 75%

While acceptance is growing in the United States, homosexual relationships in Mexico are still very taboo. Because of the stigma, Mexican prisoners with HIV or AIDS is really not a topic for discussion either, including prevention. In fact, many prison administrators deny that sex among inmates exists apart from specifically dedicated conjugal visits.

The prisoners certainly tell a different story. “We are a population of men, and it’s normal for men to have sex with whoever is around.” Ignorance and denial of this prison reality means that no scientific surveys of AIDS rates among prisoners exist. In fact, official statistics place the number of HIV-positive inmates in the capital’s prisons at a mere 62. There is no testing of the prisoner population and in many cases, convicts think that it is spread by mosquitoes, kisses, or even shared toothbrushes.

An outreach effort is currently underway to raise awareness about HIV in Mexican prisons. In one of Latin America’s toughest prisons, Reclusorio Preventive Oriente, such a program has been allowed, but the warden demonstrates the real need for its implementation. According to him, “I don’t know the level of HIV in this prison. I think it’s minimal. It’s almost nothing.”

Meanwhile across the world, a country that is not only acknowledging that HIV is a problem, but is beginning to turn the tide, is the African nation of Malawi. There they have witnessed a 75 percent drop in AIDS-related deaths over the past four years. The reason? Free medicine that helps prolong the lives of those who have contracted the virus. Since March of 2008, the government has put 159,111 people on subsidized antiretroviral drugs and 106,547 are still alive today.

How can a stigma that exists as strongly as it does in Mexican prisons be erased so the education and care needed can be given? How can Mexico become more like Malawi?

Smart Women More Likely to Tie the Knot

Think it seems like the whole world is full of smart-and-savvy women skipping the altar to stay single? Not so according to recent research. Following a brief slowing trend among degree-qualified women reluctant to settle down, the tide has turned.

Though educated girls in their twenties do have a series of entertaining and short-lived relationships, by the time their 30s roll around they're marching down the aisle in record numbers. According to the study, the numbers of women with degrees who are married by the time they are 30 to 35 is higher than those without. By about 30, 61 percent of the women with a degree were married, compared with only 53 percent of women with no higher education qualifications.

One of the researchers said,

"There's something new going on, particularly among women. It's long been assumed that more educated women are less traditional and more financially independent and are therefore less likely to need to or want to marry. And indeed, this assumption has been borne out in the data for a long time. But now. . . we can see that in fact the pattern has reversed so that women with post-school qualifications, especially those with degrees, are now in fact more likely to be married than their counterparts with less education."

Ex-Republican Says Hillary Clinton Is a Bush Enabler

Lincoln Chafee, the only Republican senator to vote against the Iraq war, doesn't think Hillary Clinton voted for authorization because she was innocently misled by President Bush. Instead, Clinton and other Democrats acted on political self-interest in 2002, as they did not want to appear "soft" on terrorism.

Chafee's book Against the Tide: How a Compliant Congress Empowered a Reckless President, contains some harsh words for his former colleague, Senator Clinton:

Being wrong about sending Americans to kill and be killed, maim and be maimed, is not like making a punctuation mistake in a highway bill. They argue that the president duped them into war, but getting duped does not exactly recommend their leadership. Helping a rogue president start an unnecessary war should be a career-ending lapse of judgment, in my view.

Chafee may have been a victim of the war he voted against. Displeasure over the Iraq war is credited with the Democratic sweep of Congress in 2006. Chafee lost his re-election bid to a Democrat. Chafee, now a registered Independent, has endorsed Barack Obama. What do you make of Chafee's strong comments against Clinton? Would you like to see more votes on principle, rather than party line, such as Chafee's vote against the war in 2002?

Rolling Stone Rocks an Endorsement For Barack Obama

Rolling Stone has a giant crush on Barack Obama. The magazine endorsed Barack Obama. This is the first time in its history it has issued a primary season endorsement. Here's how the ode to Obama begins:

The tides of history are rising higher and faster these days. Read them right and ride them, or be crushed. And then along comes Barack Obama, with the kinds of gifts that appear in politics but once every few generations. There is a sense of dignity, even majesty, about him, and underneath that ease lies a resolute discipline.
