There's news from Comedy Central this morning that the network plans to revive the '70s hit The Gong Show. The original, hosted by TV personality (and possible CIA hitman) Chuck Baris, featured amateur performers showing off their talents — singing, dancing, fire-eating, juggling — for a panel of celebrity judges. Good acts got to complete their performances, but the bad ones got the gong. Read more

If I could teleport back to the past and I was given the choice between the 60's or 70's, no question I would pick the 70's. The 60's were a decade of turmoil and strife, while the 70's were a decade of platform shoes and The Gong Show. American Idol should take some cues from this show--instead of elevating no-talents, it should gong them right off the stage. Fun for everyone! Read more
