10 Books That Are Better as Movies

It's a strange experience when you realize you're enjoying a movie more than you enjoyed the book on which it's based because so often the opposite is true. After all, presumably an author has the advantage because he/she can provide deep insight into characters that actors have to convey with but a glance. Every so often, though, a story makes a lot more sense onscreen. Here I've compiled a list of some stories I'd rather watch than read. What are yours? Just hit "Start" to begin the slideshow.

When talking health food trends, last year was all: ancient grains, overnight oats, and gluten-free goodness. This year's biggest health food trends? Here's a hint: chia pets, the godfather of fitness, and pina coladas.

Coconut milk: With recent studies calling into question the benefits of soy, people were on hunt this for a dairy-free alternative that wasn't linked to breast cancer. While almond and rice milk are old favorites, they lack the richness and sweetness that soy does. Enter: coconut milk beverage. Not as thick and rich as the kind of canned coconut milk used in curries, coconut milk beverage is great in smoothies and ice cream; it's also great over cereal, in coffee, or on its own.
Pressed juice: It seems that Odwalla just isn't fresh enough! Not since the early days of Jack Lalanne has pressed juicing seen such a heyday. Once looked at as some sort of hippie juice, everyone - even Starbucks - is getting in on the pressed-juice craze. All of Hollywood seems to be juicing, too: stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Richie, and Olivia Wilde are regularly spotted with their carrot-beet-apple-and-green-stuff blends. Are you a juice-head? Chia seeds: Move over flax, there's a new seed in town! Chia seeds (yep, the same kind used to decorate those wildly adored, '80s novelty gift, chia pets) are everywhere this year. Sprinkle them on yogurt, add them to a bread mix, or even toss them in a dressing - there really is no end to what chia seeds can be used for. The health claim to fame? Chia seeds are high in protein, fiber, calcium, antioxidants, and omega-3s - zing!

A Scruffy Jake Gyllenhaal Chats Up His Friend and Former Costar Michelle Williams at Her Premiere

A bearded and bespectacled Jake Gyllenhaal stepped out last night in NYC to support Michelle Williams at her My Week With Marilyn premiere. Jake and Michelle first worked together on Brokeback Mountain, and they stayed so close over the years that he is also her daughter Matilda's godfather. The longtime friends were deep in conversation at the event and posed for pictures together on the red carpet. Michelle wore a seafoam green Dior gown to the New York Film Festival screening, while Jake went casual in a semi-untucked white shirt. He made the trip East following a few months spent mostly in LA, where he's been shooting End of Watch. Before getting back into character as a cop for his new role, Jake capped off the Summer with a trip to Hawaii with his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal, where they hit the beach and attended their father Stephen Gyllenhaal's wedding in Oahu.

Charlotte Casiraghi Poised to Be the Next It Royal

In truth, Monaco's Charlotte Casiraghi is not a new addition to the pretty young royal set. The 25-year-old member of the Monaco royal family, who counts Grace Kelly as her grandmother, Princess Caroline of Hanover as her mother, and the reigning and newlywed Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco as her uncle and aunt, has long been known for her good taste and looks. Since it's clearly the year of the royals - with Monaco's July royal wedding, Pippa mania, and of course William and Kate's international nuptial sensation in April - Charlotte may soon get more attention. French Vogue definitely thinks she's worthy of theirs, as they put her on the cover of the ever-crucial September issue.

Born to Monaco's Princess Caroline and her second husband, the late Italian businessman Stefano Casiraghi, Charlotte is fourth in line to Monaco's throne. The middle daughter between two brothers, Charlotte's parents married when her mother was already three months pregnant with her eldest brother, Andrea. Her father died when she was only 4 in a boat-race accident, and following his death her mother moved the family to France before later remarrying.

As for a royal wedding of her own, rumors have been surfacing for more than a year that Charlotte will marry her longtime-love Alex Dellal. Since 2007, Charlotte's dated the 28-year-old London art gallery owner, whose godfather, Mario Testino, happened to shoot Charlotte for the latest French Vogue. Before any wedding, Charlotte will likely continue to focus on her equestrian career and journalism endeavors; she's a published writer and has worked as an editor-at-large. Smith is a pioneer in special effects makeup, and he's responsible for everything from Marlon Brando's amazing age makeup in The Godfather to Linda Blair's terrifying little possessed girl in The Exorcist. Now, he's receiving an honorary Oscar, which his long and storied career in film certainly merits. We're taking a look back at some of his most iconic special effects makeup jobs - how many famous films with Smith's work in them have you seen?

Diane Keaton and Robert De Niro to Go Merrily Down the Stream

Hollywood marriages are hard to keep together, even when they're just on screen. Diane Keaton and Robert De Niro will star in indie comedy Gently Down the Stream as a divorced couple who pretend to be married again. When their adopted son gets engaged, they agree to pose as a couple at the wedding to keep up appearances for his biological mother.

Katherine Heigl and Amanda Seyfried have also signed on to appear, though we don't know what roles they'll have yet. But let's be honest: it's all about De Niro and Keaton. The legendary actors were costars in The Godfather: Part II but had no scenes together, and while they were costars in Marvin's Room, they didn't play a couple. So this will be our first shot at seeing them playing a pair - even if they're not exactly a happy one, I'm psyched to see their holy acting union.
