The View Ladies Have a Case of Inappropriate Giggles

Sofía Vergara, the young, Latina wife on Modern Family, went on The View today. Things got off to an awkward enough start when Joy asked the Colombian actress, "So you really talk like that?" but then things got worse. Like rape worse. The hosts remarked on how young she is to have an 18-year-old son, and Sherri joked that Sofía must have had him when she was 12." Then Sofía took the joke much, much further saying, "No, no, 13. I was raped." What?! Silence. Now let's all laugh and make it go away. So they did, and Barbara steered the conversation into the less-felony-ish waters of motherhood.

In all fairness, I don't think I could've handled this much better. Obviously, it was nervous laughter from bewilderment and embarrassment. But what a clip it makes!

Dear Poll: Do Fairy Tales Send a Bad Message?

The View was filmed at The Walt Disney Studios in LA this week, and every morning, a different Disney character escorted the ladies on stage. This of course sparked conversations and nostalgic memories about the women's favorite fairy tales from childhood, but it also brought up some food for thought. Though the stories of Bambi, Pinocchio, and Cinderella are all moral tales, their lessons can be both sad and scary, and they also have the ability to send the wrong message to kids - as we all know, not every tale ends in happily ever after.

I loved watching these movies as a kid, and I look forward to sharing that experience with my kids one day, but tell me, do you think fairy tales such as these send a bad message to kids?

Where Do You Stand? Admitting Your Pregnancy Was a Surprise

Elisabeth Hasselbeck announced on yesterday's episode of The View that she's expecting her third child, but watching her break this news, I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable when she went into detail about how her pregnancy was a surprise. She was honest about the fact that she didn't know she was "knocked up" for almost two months, and while she seems to be excited about the new addition to her family, I found myself saying TMI! I might be the odd one out here, so tell me, where do you all stand on announcing that your pregnancy was a surprise?

Would Going On The View Help Blagojevich?

Rumor has it that IL Gov. Rod Blagojevich wants to appear on The View to tell his side of the story. The governor's public image is badly bruised right now, thanks to federal corruption charges, impeachment by the Illinois House, and an impending trial in the Illinois Senate. Blangojevich is ready to make his case to the country, and apparently he feels that Whoopi Goldberg has shown some sympathy for his predicament.

Blagojevich's previous statements may give us a preview of what he might say on national TV. He told the AP yesterday:

Dec. 9 to my family, to us, to me, is what Pearl Harbor Day was to the United States. It was a complete surprise, completely unexpected. And just like the United States prevailed in that, we’ll prevail in this.

Considering the governor's capacity to say outlandish things, an appearance on The View might get messy. Then again, maybe he just needs a chance to explain.

Regular Mom Michelle Obama Gives Us Her View

Barack and Michelle Obama are telling the American people what they want to know: how they fell in love. Six pages of the newest issue of Us Weekly, will explore their romance and feature the Obama family photo album. Michelle's message: I'm your typical American mom. Perhaps Americans want to see a softer side in their first lady. And as far as campaign strategy goes - Us Weekly may not be The Atlantic, but it sure attracts a lot of eyes at grocery stores.

As part of her mission to meet America, Michelle also co-hosted The View this morning. She looked vibrant and at ease, as she asked for a fist bump from all the ladies. Michelle also managed to ask guest Matthew Broderick what motivated his 5-year-old son to endorse her husband.

Will you pick up the Obama issue that hits newsstands nationwide Friday? Are these lighter and more human appeals a breath of fresh air during a tough political season; or would you like to stick to the issues and the candidates? I look forward to seeing John and Cindy McCain on the next issue of Life&Style.

The View Goes Gaga for the Sex and the City Movie

When Whoopi Goldberg makes the fatal mistake of mentioning the Sex and the City movie during a taping of The View, Sherri and Elisabeth can't contain their schoolgirl giggling, excited hand holding, and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious gushing. It gets a bit unnerving, but thankfully, Whoopi knows how to calmly and maturely put the two tweens in their place - by making fun of them. W00t for Whoopi!

Where in the World Is John McCain? On The View and More!

John McCain might be on cruise control until the Democrats figure out their nominee, but he hasn't been sipping margaritas on the beach by a long shot. Here's what he's been up to - and who's saying what about the Republican soon-to-be nominee.

After his time back at his day job for the Petraeus hearings, McCain sat with the ladies of The View today.

The Economist recently ran this great piece considering whether the US would elect a war hero, since the last three who've run (Kerry, Dole, and Bush Sr.) have all lost. Here's the part that got my attention:

In all his speeches, Mr. McCain urges Americans to make sacrifices for a country that is both “an idea and a cause.” He is not asking them to suffer anything he would not suffer himself. But many voters would rather not suffer at all.

Slate had two goodies on the Mac Attack: a wildly touching story about how McCain visited his friend Rep. Mo Udall in the hospital for years. It's a heart-tugger:

It was a simple act of affection and admiration, and for that reason it meant all the more to McCain. It was one man saying to another, We disagree in politics but not in life.

The other Slate piece to check out details McCain's plan to campaign deep into "enemy" territory - holding events in places where Republican votes rarely see the light of the ballot box.

There have certainly been a lot of critical things said about him recently too: regarding his position on a budget deficit and his unwillingness to rule out fighting preemptive wars.

I've got a question for all the Republicans (and McCain Democrats) out there: Are you satisfied that he will be the Republican nominee? Since the exit of all of the other candidates, some of whom were certainly more conservative than McCain, have you come to terms with him as the choice? If not, what will it take?

If you plan to vote Democrat, are you glad McCain is the opponent?

Obama Gets Flirted With By The Ladies of The View

On The View this morning, Barack Obama sat on the couch and chatted with Barbara and Company. Fending off a show of lady-style admiration perhaps harder to finesse than a barrage of tough debate questions, Obama succumbed, seeming to blush a little at the attention. Aw! He thinks Brad Pitt is better looking! Phew, I'm glad we got that cleared up. I wonder if they drew straws to see who got to sit next to him?

Barbara! Walters! Said Obama was "very sexy looking." Ack! But, the conversation went on to take a more serious turn, with resident conservative Elizabeth Hasselbeck asking Obama about his response to the Wright controversy, and if his relationship with the pastor showed a "lack of judgement." The discussion turned to race and got very heated, with Whoopi declaring, "this is a racist country."

Obama responded, "I think he's saddened by what's happen, and I told him I feel badly that he has been characterized just in this way - and people haven't seen the broader aspect of him."

Awkward! Sherri Shepherd Brings Up Whoopi's Snub

Well, we all know that The View's Sherri Shepherd can be a bit dense, but in this clip, she comes off as downright mean, when she brings up the fact that her co-host (and former Oscar host) Whoopi Goldberg wasn't featured in last night's montage of hosts. The gals then spend the next two minutes trying to make her feel better, while inevitably just making it worse.
