Lighten Up: Hillary Loves America on Letterman

On this North Carolina/Indiana morning, I'm feeling a little like harmonyfrance. Seven hours till the Indiana polls close (thank you CNN countdown clock) and this McCain voter is all shades of Hillary-lovin'. But. . . the goodwill (good-Hill?) might stop at her appearance last night on The Late Show. In a weird pre-taped, satellite performance, Hillary gave the Top Ten, and well - it didn't track for me as the pollsters say.

It was just so obviously taped in one take, and didn't appeal to the comic demographic if you will. Even Dave seemed to phone it in. Ah well, you know what they say - bad Top Ten the night before, good election returns to come! OK they don't say that, but they might if she wins!

Funny? Not funny? Will you vote for Obama based on this alone?

Lighten Up: Pop Culture Takes Over Presidential Race

It might just be the new populism. Being hip with the pop culture tastes of the American voter is the new litmus test for readiness to lead.

In the past few months, all three candidates have body-slammed their way into the WWE, John McCain proved he not only knows The Hills exists but accepted an endorsement from Heidi, Hillary's been on Tyra's show, and George Bush threatened to send Jessica Simpson to the Democratic Convention to confuse the enemy.

Barack Obama was the latest entrant into the "Bill Clinton on Arsenio" Hall of Fame when he surprised Letterman's Top Ten list last night. He uttered those two famous names (see #10) that apparently every candidate must to be taken at all seriously in this race. To check out his appearance, read more.

Is couch surfing the lineup of talk shows, savvy strategy? Are the candidates being exceptionally wily by going to the voters in their preferred forms of entertainment, or is it a sign that this race has gone on way too long? Letterman to Paula: "Are You Drunk?"

Paula Abdul appeared on Letterman Monday night to promote a plethora of projects, including a song she contributed to Randy Jackson's new album. Last month, Paula and Randy teamed up to showcase their new ditty at the Super Bowl. Of course, Letterman tried to get Paula to comment on her big comeback performance, but our gal was too busy playing "opposite day" and talking like a robot to give a straight answer. This prompted Letterman to ask the burning question . . .

2 Late Night Comics, 1 Joke

Accident or conspiracy? David Letterman and Craig Ferguson delivered the same (lame) joke on the same night last week. Their late-night talk shows aired back to back on the same network, too. What's even more baffling is the fact that these dudes actually had writers. Did one of their writers leak the joke cuz it's now - (wait for it, wait for it) - the Year of the Rat? Ba-dum ching!

Two-Headed Turtle Has Lady Troubles

You may have already seen this two-headed turtle. It's been working the talk show circuit and making guest appearances left and right, so to speak. So Letterman got the 411 and somehow this mutant turtle's still cruising solo (minus the extra head) down dating lane. I guess making a move of any kind has been a bit difficult, but don't them "perty" lady turtles realize that two heads equal two times the attention?

New TV Show: Quackers The S*?#" Eating Duck

Due to the unprecedented popularity of Quackers, the duck who appeared on Conan's show and left such a lasting impression, the NBC network has decided to let the duck take a "quack" at prime-time television. The show is titled "Quackers The S*?# Eating Duck." I don't know about you, but it looks pretty promising to me!
