I remember being on the subway one day eavesdropping on a conversation. A man in his early 20s was telling a woman he was with that when he was younger, no show could annoy his father more than the pioneering '70s show Maude, starring Bea Arthur, who passed away April 25 at the age of 87.
Bea Arthur's character, Maude, was the polar opposite of her television cousin, subservient Edith Bunker of All in the Family.

Buying condoms is nothing to be embarrassed about; just ask the Golden Girls. That is, until the cashier announces to the whole store that you're buying ultrasensitive prophylactics in black. (Also, this could totally be a plotline on Sex and the City.)

The Golden Girls, a proto-Sex and the City, featured four sassy older gals who proved that you just get better — albeit crazier — with age. The Golden Girls were wise beyond their collective years. (And that's really saying something!) But leave it to Sophia to dole out the only argument ever really needed for gay marriage: they love each other.

The Golden Girls is a classic TV program that will never die. Even if we play cookie voodoo on the ladies and bite off each of their doughy little heads, the show will live and prosper in syndication for eternity. Nice try, but there's just no doing away with it folks.

Mashups have officially jumped the shark with this one. Someone decided to pay homage to the Golden Girls via the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and somehow produced something totally literal and off-the-wall. And unlike most mashups that get you to think about the mashed-up things differently, this one manages to illuminate neither TGG or TMNT.
