Awkward! My Friend Keeps Oversharing Her Sex Life

"I have this really good friend. I love her to death, but she tends to overshare with me, and it's pretty uncomfortable at times. Every time she has sex, I get a text. "Just had amazing sex!" "He's soo great in bed . . . just had the best sex ever!" (Just some of the examples that come to mind.) I get one of these texts almost daily, and it really drives me nuts. I'm afraid that if I say this to her she'll think she can't tell me anything. (She tends to react dramatically.) We are really close and do share a lot, but I don't need an update everytime she gets it on. I don't know what to do!"

Where Do You Stand? Admitting Your Pregnancy Was a Surprise

Elisabeth Hasselbeck announced on yesterday's episode of The View that she's expecting her third child, but watching her break this news, I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable when she went into detail about how her pregnancy was a surprise. She was honest about the fact that she didn't know she was "knocked up" for almost two months, and while she seems to be excited about the new addition to her family, I found myself saying TMI! I might be the odd one out here, so tell me, where do you all stand on announcing that your pregnancy was a surprise?

A Case of Too Much Information

Do you have a friend, or worse, a coworker who just doesn’t know when to stop sharing information about her personal life? When people end up leaving everyone around them slightly uncomfortable, they've divulged TMI, or too much information. Things that fall under that category might be your mom’s sex life, your boss’s bathroom habits, your neighbor’s foot fetish, or even your own personal fantasies. It’s not that you’re judging what they're saying per se, but you just don’t want to know; we all have our limits! So tell me: Are you one to stop people from giving TMI, or are you a TMI offender?

TMI? Woman to Broadcast Baby's Birth on Live TV

It started out as a blogging gig for a moms-to-be site, but 23-year-old Lynsee, a teacher from Minnesota, decided to take it a step further. Along with her mother, husband, and midwife, she's going to have a cameraman film her giving birth while it's broadcast on live television. (No graphic shots, however.)

Although her husband Anders was hesitant at first, he finally agreed to it. "We wanted to share this experience," said Lynsee. "If I were in a classroom, I'd be teaching about development. It was a way for me to teach . . . A way for me to use myself as a textbook."

I find it odd that Lynsee asked to keep her last name private for this news story but is going to have someone film and broadcast to strangers one of the most private experiences of her life. (But maybe that's just me.) Is giving birth on television for strangers to watch TMI?

Awkward! My Married Friends Have No Boundaries

My friend just vented to me about her married friends who like to divulge details about their sex lives without realizing that they're sharing way too much! (Sound familiar?) Here she described her dilemma:

"My good friend just sent me an email telling me that she and her husband are 'trying' for baby number two. She went on to tell me that they've been 'working on it' for a month now, and she assured me that she will keep me updated. Why do all my married friends think that it's suddenly not awkward to talk about their sex lives when there's baby-making involved! Not OK!"

Tweeting Your Miscarriage or Abortion: Good For Women?

When Penelope Trunk, a blogger who shares almost every detail of her life over the Internet, had a miscarriage, she decided to tweet about it. She wrote:

I'm in a board meeting. Having a miscarriage. Thank goodness, because there's a f**ked-up 3-week hoop-jump to have an abortion in Wisconsin.

Writer KJ Dell'Antonia over at Double X thinks Trunk did women a favor with this TMI tweet. She reasons that Trunk should not give her miscarriage, or would-be abortion, different treatment than other events that happen to her. In fact, Dell'Antonia thinks all women should be more open to talking about these issues because pretending that they never happen reserves "a special layer or shame and condemnation for the bodily functions that happen only to women."

So Dell'Antonia says: "go ahead, tweet your abortion" because it's good for womankind. Do you agree?

Chart It Out: The Politician's TMI Index

Aw, I'd almost forgotten all about the whole Mark Foley thing until New York's Daily Intel put the recent sex scandals into a handy (Heh. I remember now.) chart aimed at answering that one crucial question: at what point is Info, Too Much.

I know, we said we were done blaming politicians who were involved in sex scandals, but really this is more for historical research. This little excerpt doesn't do justice to the whole thing. If you're interested in the prurient parts of politics, go peek for yourself.
