Forcing troops to serve past their enlistment dates has been considered a back-door draft by some.
The AP reports that the Army plans to stop the unpopular practice known as "stop-loss" saving it for extraordinary circumstances only.
Previously the Army argued that stop-loss was crucial to unit cohesion and keeping specially trained soldiers on duty during war.

Imagine if someone with a grudge against you told the police you were a drug dealer. Officers would come to your work and arrest you. Then you'd be told that you could go home right away by taking a plea bargain.

I really feel like I am at the end of my rope. A year ago, I met the man I thought I would spend the rest of my life with. We didn't become official until this February, but since then his ex has been trying to contact him nonstop even though he's told her to leave him alone.

I have been married for 13 years and I try to do nice things for my wife every chance I get. I send her emails at work saying how much I love her and give her little items to make her smile (hopefully). I bought her flowers and left strategically placed notes in random places so that she would see them throughout her day on our anniversary.

While the stock market's belly-dancer-gyrations (more of a limbo, "how low can you go?", really) seem significant — according to a study commissioned by the EU, the global economy actually loses more money through the disappearance of forests than through the financial ho-down. The study pegs the cost of the loss of forests between $2 and $5 trillion per year, while calculations put the financial mess at $1.5 trillion.
How did they arrive at that figure?
