Flashback: Knox Gelatin Cookbook

I was looking at some old Gourmet magazines the other day and thought - wow, food photography has really come a long way. Then I found this "turn every food you can imagine into a gelatinous mass" cookbook. Three bean jello mold, anyone? How about jellied salmon mousse - in the clever shape of a fish? As I turned the faded brown pages, looking at the sickly gray foods pureed, whipped, and jelled into unappealing shapes with weird backdrops, I understood why the idea of using whole foods now seems so revolutionary. Check out this slide show of what passed for food in the '70s (1977, to be exact) and I'm sure you will agree . . .

Guerilla Artist Banksy Has Official Exhibit in His Hometown

Anonymous in the age of celebrity and making artwork with social commentary while other artists cash in, graffiti artist Banksy has intrigued audiences with his art and identity since he began stencilling/vandalizing public property in the early '90s. (No official image of the guy exists!) Known for installing his own work surreptitiously in museums, Banksy helped mount a surprise exhibit in his hometown - Banksy versus Bristol Museum. The exhibit is supposed to be Banksy's way of thanking Bristol for giving his street art its first canvas.

What You Might See If You Could Go to Cuba

President Obama lifted travel restrictions for Cuban Americans a couple of weeks ago, and since then travel is booming. A 2004 Bush administration policy allowed US residents with family in Cuba to travel to the island only once every three years. Now, those with relatives are free to go. The general American population still must observe an all-out ban on travel.

There are signs that this might change. US officials held talks with Cuban diplomats in Washington DC this week, to discuss taking further steps to improve relations between the neighboring rivals. Permission for US residents to visit the island could come soon!

Still, you can't book your ticket today, so take a look at some scenes from Cuban life. These pictures are pretty, but it's safe to assume that life is hard for many people in this impoverished country.

6 Somewhat Disturbing Easter Treats

As if biting the heads off chocolate bunnies wasn't creepy enough, candy manufacturers just keep the weirdness coming. And you thought it started and ended with the light-up bunny pacifier! Here are six of my favorite secular (and religious!) Easter treats to laugh at, puzzle over, enjoy, or - in some cases - avoid.

6 Silly Celebrity Lookalikes

Why is it that so many celebrities resemble other celebrities? (I'm looking at you, Kristen Bell, Jennifer Aniston, and Lo Bosworth!) More importantly, though, why do so many celebrities look like muppets, cats, and cartoon characters? See some of my favorites by clicking "start slideshow."
