Karl Lagerfeld made a prediction years ago that men would be the new women. What he meant by that, in part, is that they, too, will be as worried as women about their looks. Metrosexuality is mainstream now, what with men manscaping, flat ironing, and guy-lining their way into the looks-obsessed world we women have inhabited forever.

Whether you call it your Moon Time or the Curse, if you're a woman, you have to contend with a monthly period. Let's take a look at how advertising sold its pads and 'pons to women of yore. Whether it was through distraction (hey, look, a pretty dress!) or through the rhetoric of freedom, advertisers did their best to sell a product women have never really been thrilled to buy.

Whoever said that men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses doesn't follow me around when I'm running my errands on the weekend. I can roll out of bed, no makeup, hair a mess, but I put on my LaFont glasses and kaboom, baby! (as Billy Mays would have said), men begin giving me the eye.

For women, there are only two categories of men we need to be aware of: douchebags and nondouchebags.

When I was a kid, a trip to the mall was not complete without a visit to Spencer's Gifts, home of all things tacky and strange. I particularly liked its "Adults-Only" section, which seemed, ironically, to house sex toys that seemed invented by children. Edible undies?
