Sex and the City Billboards: Too Racy for Israel?

You won't find Carrie and Mr. Big making out on the street of Jerusalem. Sex and the City advertisers have decided to forgo marketing in Jerusalem and Petah Tikva, Israel, in order to avoid offending devoutly religious residents.

The ad company is worried that the word "Sex," as well as racy pictures of the films' stars could, provoke widespread objection. This isn't the first time SATC has employed a different marketing campaign in these locations. During the shows television heyday, a poster was modified to make Sarah Jessica Parker's outfit into a more modest ensemble.

Not wanting to be labeled prude, the city of Petah Tikva went out of its way to clarify that it had nothing to do with the decision. And, an official from Jerusalem called reports that the city had censored the billboards slanderous.

Are sexy posters offensive to even the non-religious? Is the company taking a paternalistic attitude toward these residents? Or are they just sensibly avoiding a confrontation and negative backlash?

South Korea Blames Internet Rumors for Death of Actress

A couple of weeks ago Choi Jin Sil, South Korea's most famous actress, committed suicide. Now the country's officials and media have placed the blame of the tragedy at the feet of the Internet, and the rumors its users perpetuate.

Before she took her life, South Korea's vigorous online community accused Choi of being a loan shark, and motivating another actor to gas himself because she pressured him to repay a $2 million loan.

Choi's death has increased the urgency for a government that already put quelling verbal abuse at the top of its agenda, after online comments critical of their plastic surgery apparently caused the suicides of two young celebrities, a singer, and another actress. Nine hundred agents from the Cyber Terror Response Center are searching blogs and discussion boards for slander, or users who instigate cyber bullying.

In the US, the cyber bullies who contributed to the suicide of a 13-year-old girl had to answer to the law - do you think there should be a different legal standard when the victim is a celebrity being bullied by the public?

Kathy Griffin appeared on Larry King Live last Friday to promote the return of her Emmy-winning reality show, My Life on the D-List. Given that Kathy has something nasty to say about everyone - minus Anderson Cooper - Larry knew exactly what he was doing when he dragged Tom Cruise into the discussion. He was stepping into a minefield of accusations and slander and . . . invisible alien antennae? Good times!

Having an ex can be incredibly hard, especially if one party still has feelings for the other, but let's face it, we all have a past so here are some tips on how to remain civil to each other after a break up. Click here to read more

Avoid one more time get togethers, drunk dialing, and especially break up sex. It will just confuse the relationship and prolong getting over each other.
When you break up, make sure nothing is left unsaid and get the closure you need, just make sure you don't use getting that closure as an excuse to see each other.
Even if your breakup wasn't amicable, try to avoid bad mouthing your ex. When one person starts slandering the other, he or she will no doubt rebut which could start a war.
When you unexpectedly run into an ex, handle it gracefully. Instead of acting like a high-schooler, be cordial, smile, say hello, and move on. Acting like a child or being overly fake and nice won't do any good either.
If you start dating someone before your ex, don't gloat. Rubbing your new relationship in the face of your ex will only hurt his or her feelings and make your relationship sound unjust.

After a break up it's easy to want to hold on for dear life, but if it's over, it's over so a clean break will be a more healthy way to sever your ties, no matter how badly it hurts. Good luck.

Sunday Confessional: I’m The Guilty Gossip

Dear Sugar
Everyone in my office has Instant Messenger. The other day I was IMing with a co-worker of mine about a very juicy rumor that I had heard. Apparently, the VP of our company was caught making out (cheating on his wife no less) with our manager Megan.

There is a gym in our office building on the top floor and I guess they went to the gym together, went down to the garage and were kissing by her car. It was late and they must have thought that nobody was around to see. How risque if you ask me! Anyway, I was IMing my coworker about this when our manager came up behind me and saw what she had written. It said:

“Ohmigosh, I can not believe it about Megan and Mr. Smothers. Yuck, how weird! Is that even legal…and he’s married! ”

I was mortified. I could feel my face turning red and my heart pounding. How could I turn around and ever look at her again? I was smart enough to take away each line as I wrote it, so Megan never knew anything about me starting this IM gossip. It appeared as though I was hearing this news from my co-worker for the first time.

I knew that she was embarrassed, mortified and disappointed. I didn’t know what to do but I knew that I had to do something or I would forever be thought of as a gossip. That would have made work wonderful. So I said:

"I am sorry that you saw that. I will be sure and tell my co-worker to put an end to this malicious slander. Is there anything that I can do for you? Are you OK? I am sure today is going to be tough, so let me know if there is anything you need.”

I know that what I did was wrong. I was the one who started this IM conversation, I was the rumor spreader and I made it look like I was innocent. I also sort of brown-nosed to stay on her good side which I know is really lame? But would anyone in their right mind really admit to spreading a rumor about their own boss? Please forgive me.
