Who doesn't love flowers, especially when they are delivered right to your door or desk at work? Since flowers are often gifted by men to women, I thought I'd honor all the single ladies out there and give away 12 months of fresh flowers, valued at $500! One lucky DearSugar reader will receive an arrangement every month for one year on whatever date she wishes — what a great prize to win, especially during National Singles Week!

Life is a learning process, and the things we learn when we’re on our own are the same things we take with us into a relationship. Likewise, the things we come to know about ourselves after we’ve been with someone could have been extremely useful to know back when we were single. You can’t go backward, but wouldn’t it at least be great to share with your past self some of the things you’ve learned in the dating game?

Going out with friends and meeting new people is one of the best parts of being single. But when your wing woman has the same taste as you, complications are bound to arise. I'm lucky, my single friends and I couldn't have more opposite taste in men, but I've unfortunately witnessed the fallout of two bachelorettes pining over the same guy.

Thanks to a wonderful suggestion from Looseseal, I'm here to give you all a chance to share your comebacks for the most frustrating question asked when you're single: Why don't you have a boyfriend? Not only does that question put us on the spot, but no answer ever seems good enough when the reality is just that we haven't met the right person yet! So ladies, have at it and tell me how you respond to such questions.

It seems like most of you like the freedom aspect of being single most, but that autonomy is often a double-edged sword. The grass is always greener, right?

Though I do know people who love to date, many people dread the dating game. It's like playing the love lottery, except if you lose, you've just sacrificed hours of your life for a bad meal and worse company. And while a great date can lead to a wonderful romance, a terrible date can end with a lot of self-pity and general disappointment.

Even if being single isn't your preference, there have got to be some things you enjoy about not being tied down — like having the freedom to do as you please without checking in with someone and being able to flirt freely, which is a very underrated perk of being single if you ask me. So to you 16 percent that actually enjoy your single life, do tell, what is it that makes it so fun?

There was a time when negative connotations surrounded being single, but today with movies like Sex and the City booming at the box office, it's clear that there's a new image of the single woman. A woman who can take on the world, man or not. While it's promising to see that being single is finally being acknowledged as a choice, it's true that we still live in a society that values partnership.
