Would You Get a Prenup?

I tend to associate the word "prenup" with that Sex and the City episode when Charlotte's wealthy fiancé Trey MacDougal springs a tricky contract on her well into the engagement. But according to the Guardian, it's not just rich men who are asking for the in-case-of-divorce contracts. More women than ever are requesting prenuptial agreements before they walk down the aisle - even if they don't have millions in the bank.

One expert looks to the recession as a reason why brides-to-be want to protect their assets with a contract that states how money and property will be divided upon divorce. With all the economic uncertainty, working women want to make sure they can hold onto the money they've earned if something goes wrong.

Would it be hard for you to plan for your divorce before you even got married, or do you think it's practical to have a back-up plan?

Do You Date Younger Men?

Author Candace Bushnell might be married to a man 10 years her junior, but don't call her a cougar. In an op-ed out tomorrow in More Magazine, the Sex and the City writer laments the fact that women who break out of traditional roles are then labeled with a derogatory term. We have "ballbuster" female CEOs, "bitchy" politicians, and alas, "cougars."

Candace believes that people who use the term cougar are simply ignorant of the real appeal of dating younger men. Or maybe they're just jealous. Candace writes:

What I have yet to see is a real woman choose a younger man because he spent six hours a day at the gym trying to sculpt his abs. The fact that a man is open to being with an older woman suggests that he doesn't give a hang what other people think of him. More likely, he's confident, open-minded and willing to make his own rules. All of which just happen to be qualities that, much more than a great six-pack, make for a great relationship.

Can Hollywood Make You Unhealthy?

The American Medical Association wants Hollywood to stop featuring smoking on the big screen. They say movies that depict images of smoking cause young people to start smoking.

The entertainment industry has stripped dangerous behavior of its consequences before. You could argue that Sex and the City made it seem as if there were no serious emotional or health repercussions to casual sex, when in reality, it can be unfulfilling and risky. While I would never want society to stigmatize healthy sexuality, I wonder if ignoring the dark side of promiscuity encouraged women to emulate the characters on TV without thinking about the real-life consequences.

Can watching unhealthy behavior glamorized on film or television prompt you to do something you wouldn't have done otherwise, or are we all (even the young and impressionable) completely responsible for our own behavior?

Beatrice Arthur (1922-2009)

I remember being on the subway one day eavesdropping on a conversation. A man in his early 20s was telling a woman he was with that when he was younger, no show could annoy his father more than the pioneering '70s show Maude, starring Bea Arthur, who passed away April 25 at the age of 87.

Bea Arthur's character, Maude, was the polar opposite of her television cousin, subservient Edith Bunker of All in the Family. No wonder your average man would feel threatened by Maude - she identified as a feminist (a first for television?), she had a commanding, sarcastic manner, and she didn't suffer fools gladly. Maude, the show, tackled issues like abortion, the Vietnam War, and divorce.

Arthur went on to reprise her popularity as an icon (this time, as a hip older woman) in the more lighthearted (but no less feminist) series The Golden Girls, beloved by women and gay men alike. In the following video, she shows she continued to be a badass by starring in a geriatric version of Sex and the City, which, if you think of it, was simply the younger-woman version of The Golden Girls! Talented, tough, funny - and not above making fun of herself. You will be missed, Bea!

Sex and the City Heads Back to School

Candace Bushnell, the author of the book Sex and the City, just signed a deal with HarperCollins Publishers to write a two book series titled The Carrie Diaries, which will be all about Carrie's high school years. Bushnell has always been interested in writing about Carrie's formative years, before she became the sex columnist we all grew to love, before she meet her three best friends, and before she entered into her tumultuous life in the Big Apple.

While I'm all for keeping Sex and the City alive, I'm not so sure how I feel about these books being geared towards teens. As Bushnell states: "Carrie in high school did not follow the crowd -- she led it," but what kind of a lesson does that teach? High school is hard enough as it is, and if these readers look to Carrie as an inspiration, they might be let down as she was still as lost as ever decades after high school, regardless if she was the most popular girl in school. Perhaps I'm reading too far into this, but tell me your thoughts on The Carrie Diaries. Would you be OK with your teenage kids reading these books or do you think most of the readers will be adult fans of the show?

Have You Ever Received a True Love Letter?

Remember the scene in Sex and the City where Carrie reads her book of love letters aloud to Mr. Big? Well apparently it caught the attention of many, because according to an article yesterday in the Telegraph, fans were inundating book sellers with requests for a copy of Love Letters of Great Men. And in typical movie form, the book didn't exist . . . until now. The British firm Macmillan decided to issue a book filled with excerpts from historical figures using the same name - genius, if you ask me!

This news got me thinking about love letters in general. Since times have so drastically changed, love letters seem to be a thing of the past, as are handwritten letters of any kind. I've been lucky enough to have received a love letter, and it will be something that I'll treasure forever, but what about you? Tell me ladies, have you ever received a true love letter from someone special? If so, tell us about it!

Do Tell: What Sex and the City Relationship Do You Most Identify With?

By now, many of you have probably seen Sex and the City on the big screen, so you know how things turn out for Carrie and Big, Steve and Miranda, Charlotte and Harry, and Samantha and Smith. But those are only a few of the many relationships we witnessed over the course of the series.

No matter what type of person you are, you can probably see one or two of your relationships (past or present) mirrored by the couples on the show. Have you ever have a bad breakup like Carrie and Berger's (the infamous Post-It)? Did you date someone with a meddlesome mother like Charlotte did with Trey? Did you, like Samantha, once get rid of a guy because he wasn't well-endowed?

Even if you haven't seen the movie yet, tell me: What Sex and the City relationship do you most identify with and why? What past or present relationship of yours matches up with a relationship on the show?

Dear Poll: Is It Harder to Be the Dumper or the Dumpee?

At the recent NYC press junket for the big premiere, our favorite Sex and the City actors got asked about some of the tough relationship issues their characters have dealt with throughout the show and now, in the movie. Ironically, the infamous heartbreaker Mr. Big, AKA Chris Noth, was asked if he had any experience in breakups, to which he responded:

Absolutely, I always think it is harder to dump than to be dumped. . . . Because when you’re dumped, you can feel sorry for yourself and listen to sad songs. . . . But when you dump someone, you take the full responsibility of possibly hurting someone and no one wants to hurt anyone.

I thought Noth's take was an interesting one, though I'm not sure I agree. Sure, everyone loves a good pity party every once and a while, but I'm not convinced that having your heartbroken is better than doing the breaking yourself. Neither are fun, but which is harder?

Do, Dump, or Marry?

Even though I'm not an advocate of falling for bad boys, I can't deny my insane attraction for Mr. Big! Just catching a glimpse of Chris Noth doing press for the Sex and the City movie gives me chills! I'm not sure if it's because Big is so dangerous to love or if it's just his sexy, masculine bravado, but whatever it is, my crush on him is irrefutable. I bet many of you are screaming at your computer while reading this, but there's got to be some of you who are with me.

Though I usually ask about you about actors, this poll is actually about Mr. Big, not Chris Noth. If this fictional character were real, would you do, dump, or marry him?

The View Goes Gaga for the Sex and the City Movie

When Whoopi Goldberg makes the fatal mistake of mentioning the Sex and the City movie during a taping of The View, Sherri and Elisabeth can't contain their schoolgirl giggling, excited hand holding, and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious gushing. It gets a bit unnerving, but thankfully, Whoopi knows how to calmly and maturely put the two tweens in their place - by making fun of them. W00t for Whoopi!
