If you didn't grow up in San Francisco, and maybe if you did, you might not have heard of slain gay-rights activist Harvey Milk until Milk hit theaters last year. Sean Penn, who won the Oscar for his portrayal of the nation's first openly gay person elected to major office, wants to continue promoting Milk's legacy. Yesterday in SF, Sean teamed up with state Senator Mark Leno to announce legislation creating a Harvey Milk Day in California.

It feels like one major star per awards show forgets to thank his or her significant other during the acceptance speech. While an acting win is based on performance and craft, giving thanks to the person who loves and supports you should just come naturally, if you ask me.
Last night, it was Sean Penn, who neglected to thank his wife, Robin Wright Penn, when he took the Oscar podium after winning Best Actor for Milk.

While he wasn't leading the revolution against France's smoking ban, Sean Penn, this year's president of the Cannes Film Festival jury, had some mixed up words for another (would be) president. Penn, who has been an imaginative critic of George W. Bush and his soiled blood soaked underwear, gave Barack Obama both an endorsement and a disparagement all the way from glamorous Cannes, France.

In the ever complicated environmental tussle between clean fuel and responsible use of resources the differing opinions over the use of biofuels has produced an interesting contrast of ideas — fueled by Ethanol.
Sean Penn, actor/activist has just initiated a cross-country trek using a fleet of biodiesel buses carrying about 300 people that will burn the corn fuel for 1,800 miles from the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and ending in New Orleans for the annual jazz festival. Penn appeared twice yesterday at Coachella.

Cuban President Raul Castro is ready to listen to what President-elect Barack Obama has to say about US-Cuban relations. But Castro told Sean Penn, who traveled to Cuba to interview the dictator, that the meeting would have to be on neutral ground. Castro said:
Personally, I think it would not be fair that I be the first to visit, because it is always the Latin American presidents who go to the United States first.
