Jul 27 2009 - 7:00am Why force unrealistic standards on models when you can just get a robot to walk down the runway? That's what designer Yumi Katsura did, sending Miim the robot down the aisle in a wedding dress. You can see a picture of Miim here, but I imagine she's creepy-close to the spokes-bot in the commercial below.
Oh my. I used to work in the fashion industry and I can't imagine too many models are happy about this.
On a geeky note talk about rise of the machines. Did you know the capacity of a chip doubles almost every year and has the potential to simply grow exponentially. One day computers will have
trillion X the mental capacity of the human brain. How much of our lives are we willing to give up to machines? Right now it's the latest designer clothing tomorrow it could be the world.
I think robot models is an fascinating idea. They might find some place in the future runway projects, however I don't think the point is to replace people, but to add meaning and concept to
the to the show as a whole. It's a wonderous opportunittyto have all robot shows, or all people shows and guess who was the one robot.
