Why force unrealistic standards on models when you can just get a robot to walk down the runway? That's what designer Yumi Katsura did, sending Miim the robot down the aisle in a wedding dress. You can see a picture of Miim here, but I imagine she's creepy-close to the spokes-bot in the commercial below. Spooky.

I must not be keeping up with my robot news, because if this is from the Akiba Robot Fair from 2006 - where are those 'bot scientists now with the technology? Maybe the person sitting next to me on public transportation is a 'bot and I don't even know it! We're due for a good robot movie, if you asked me. Hollywood, are you listening? (Probably not.)

If I saw a pair of flaming, torso-less legs pushing a shopping cart down the street, I doubt I'd be as blithe as these folks who barely give it a second glance. Call me a wimp, but unless I just did a sheet of acid, this would cause me to pause, and perhaps to scream.

This freaky-ass girl robot created by the Osaka University robotics department is making me rethink my love of robots. She's based on a 5-year-old (yeah, a 5-year-old zombie, maybe!) and could give that Chucky dude from Child's Play a run for his money. Ack! (Also guys, the horror movie music isn't helping your cause.)

Poised somewhere between the tongue-in-cheek '70s Kraftwerk robots and Daft Punk's nudge-nudge wink-wink robots of the new century is the masterwork "Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto" by the awesome band Styx. Without a trace of irony or humor (that's OK, that's my job!) the lead singer goes on and on about how robots represent the worst of dehumanizing technology. That's an original critique! (And, ummm, why do the robots look Asian?) Anyway, I shouldn't mistake this song for something that's supposed to provoke too much thought. It's just cheesy rock 'n' roll at its best. Kilroy was here!
