I'm 16 and I just moved to LA from the Midwest. I was walking around Melrose one day with a neighbor friend I had made and got an invitation to a postcard party. I asked a girl at school what this was about and she told me it was a "flyer party" which basically means a teenage drug and sex party. I am terrified. No one from my hometown has had sex yet and I am still a virgin. Is this what goes on here and am I going to be expected to have sex if I go? Not everyone at these parties is having sex, but the majority of them are having oral sex. If you're not ready for all of this, then don't go to the party. Stay strong and hang out at places where you know some of the people. I know you are new to town - you should try to join a sports team or an after school activity you are interested in if you want to make friends. These sex parties are the newest kinds of raves, where teens have access to all kinds of drugs, alcohol and empty houses. They are getting to be so mainstream that Tyra Banks just did an episode on her talk show about flyer parties on May 4th. Stick to your values. Sex is personal and sacred - don't fall for peer pressure just because you are the new girl in a very fast town.

Obama Brand Goes Global Perhaps Lifting American Brand

From Europe to South America to Asia to his father's birthplace in Kenya, Barack Obama's candidacy has made an impact. Black Europeans are pinning their hopes for more representation in their government on a persuasive example set by the election of Barack. Citing his charisma and ideas, black community leaders say his race is not the only reason for the transatlantic support.

Meanwhile, Colombia has adopted a more spirited way to show support - making Obama the mascot of their lottery. Colombia's Metal region placed Obama's face on its Oct. 22 ticket. In a country whose president strongly supports President Bush, the lottery officials explained the mood of the people: "We picked Obama's portrait for our lottery because we're always looking for somebody people are raving about. He's ahead in opinion polls and right now he's the most popular guy around here."

In his NYT's column today, Nicholas Kristof recounts the disbelief a friend in Beijing shared when he told her there's a good chance America will elect a black man president. To see how he explained the potential of an Obama presidency, read more.

We’re beginning to get a sense of how Barack Obama’s political success could change global perceptions of the United States, redefining the American “brand” to be less about Guantanamo and more about equality. This change in perceptions would help rebuild American political capital in the way that the Marshall Plan did in the 1950s or that John Kennedy’s presidency did in the early 1960s.

Politics Take Center Stage at the Emmys: The Real Winner?

The group-effort, let's-have-everybody-host format at last night's Emmys isn't earning raves in the cold light of day, but the election can surely be counted as one of the stars, swiping at least as much stage time as some of the winners despite rumors of a ban. Behold as Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart turn an innocent snack into a juicy metaphor for the political landscape.

Colbert said, “America needs prunes. It may not be a young, sexy plum. Granted, it's shriveled and at times hard to swallow. But this dried-up old prune has the experience we need.” He forgot that prunes also have, er, medicinal qualities. Perhaps we need those too?

Jon Stewart, whose Daily Show won last night for Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy series, also had this to say perhaps hinting that whoever wins this fall, the show and the funnies will go on: “I really look forward to the next administration whoever it is. I have nothing to follow that up with. I'm just saying I really look forward to the next administration whoever it is." Stewart and Colbert were gentle here, but the political opinions got much more heated as the night went on.

One of the (five!) co-hosts Howie Mandel said this of the. . . undisciplined brand of hosting: “We are like on Sarah Palin's bridge to nowhere, that's where we are right now. The government can't even bail us out of this. We have nothing.” Funny?

But political programming was an actual winner too, with the HBO political dramas John Adams and Recount taking home statues, leading to a discussion of who actually got the freedom of speech during the ceremony. Kirk Ellis who won last night for writing John Adams was cut of mid-speech while he was praising the era of oratory where politicians, "articulated complex thoughts in complete sentences." Adding the pointed jab, "I love freedom of expression, and as soon as I opened my mouth they were signaling to wrap it up. I find it interesting we can do 30 minutes devoted to reality show hosts but none for the people who actually (write the programs)."

Laura Linney won for her role in John Adams and took her speech as an opportunity to dig at Sarah Palin's mention of community organizers at the convention. Linney said onstage, "so grateful and thankful for the community organizers that helped found our country." And later in the media tent, "Our founding fathers were community organizers. just feel it's been disparaged a bit. I don't feel anyone should be disrespected, no matter what party they're in. No matter who they are."

The most cutting Palin line last night could have come from the only one whose career could benefit from a McCain win. Winner Tina Fey said, "I want to be done playing this lady Nov. 5. So, if anyone can help me be done playing this lady, that would be good for me."

Is it inevitable that politics will be taking over everything for the next 43 days? Were the political statements at the Emmys appropriate?

What the Hell Are Kids Watching?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but pointing is rude, no? So why is this creepy ass puppet on The Wiggles explicitly instructing our impressionable tykes to point their fingers - up, down, every damn place? (Then there's the question of where this puppet is pointing exactly - down where?) Sesame Street may get a bad rep, but at least Big Bird and the gang aim to teach our kids a little more than how to hold their own at a rave. The Wiggles are seriously trippin'.

This bear has an itch that he just can't scratch and it's a little hard to find help in the woods. All them humans take one look at him and head for the hills screaming. So what's a teddy to do? Rub up against a tree for a quick scratch. But before long, our boy looks like he's having too much fun. On a dance floor. At a rave. Throw in a few glow sticks and we'd have one wild party. Aha! Is this the bear that inspired the painting?
