eBay Find of the Day: Popcorn Motorcycle Man

I can't tell you how happy I was, in the middle of the madness that is Mercury Retrograde, to be greeted with the following words: "You are bidding on a small piece of Crunch 'n' Munch popcorn and peanut flavored snack. The peculiar aspect of this particular popcorn product is that it is shaped in great detail like a small man with a peanut helmet cruisin' along on his motorcycle!" Do I really need to say more? He is indeed the cutest little helmet-wearing popcorn I ever did see.

My boyfriend and I date long distance. He's coming in next weekend and the forecast is calling for rain. I can't wait to snuggle up to him all weekend. What are a few good date movies we'll both enjoy? Film Aficionado

I'll begin my recommendations by genre. 9 1/2 weeks is hot and sexy! Start with this one to get him in the mood for a weekend indoors. Wedding Crashers is a hysterical comedy that both sexes are sure to love. Even if you've already seen it, somehow more and more hidden jokes reveal themselves (call me kitty cat). Usual Suspects is both a great mystery movie. It happens to be one of my all-time favorites. Crash won movie of the year at the Oscars. It's a drama that you will be talking about well after you see it. Walk The Line is both a musical and a dramatic love story. Same as Moulin Rouge. If you are in the mood for something of a lesser blockbuster type, both March of The Penguins and Touching The Void are documentary survival stories. All are available on netflix , so get your order in ASAP. Enjoy.

5 Things To Do With Your Significant Other at Home

More than half of you have felt the effects of the economic downturn in your relationship, but just because you're not painting the town as red as you used to, the fun doesn't have to stop. Instead of getting down, start enjoying the simpler life. Here are five ways to help you do just that, and if I've forgotten anything, tell me how you and your partner are spending your nights these days in the comments below.

Rent a movie (or borrow one from a friend or co-worker), pop some popcorn, and make it movie night at home!
Invite your friends over for a potluck dinner. Assign each couple a course and trade recipes at the end of the night - it's a great way to expand your recipe box.

Make it a romantic night in. Light some candles and take turns massaging each other. I can't think of a better excuse to stay home!
Use the time you'd usually be out and about to check off your chores list - I'm sure you both have plenty of work to do!
Scrapbook together. Combine each other's memorabilia boxes and make a scrapbook of your relationship that you both can enjoy.

Five Things to Do When You Need a Pick-Me-Up

Every so often we can feel down on our luck. Maybe it's just a passing mood or maybe it's a particularly bad string of events, but sometimes in this hectic life we just need a pick-me-up. Here are some of my quick mood boosters when the going gets tough. Check them out and see if you agree!

Have a latte! The simplicity of a good espresso drink cannot be beat. Pair it with a walk outside and you have a cheap pick-me-up that's good for a dreary afternoon.
Dine on popcorn and Red Vines. I have a thing for movie-theater treats, and I always feel better after a couple hours of munching and a light-hearted movie.
Play with a puppy. I'm a sucker for pups, but most of the time I can't actually get to one when I need one. Fortunately, puppy pics or videos usually do the trick. So when I'm in a sour mood, but stuck behind my computer, I'll opt for a good 10 minutes of puppy viewing!

Enjoy a chocolate-chip cookie. What's better than the smell of homemade cookies? Eating homemade cookies, of course! I love to get my bake on when I'm gloomy. Cookies and milk do a mood good.
Get active. I'm going to be honest with you, I don't love to work out (sorry, Fit!), but I do love how I feel afterwards. If I can drag my behind out the door, I'm sure to feel better when I get back home.

The How-To Lounge: Saving Money When Your Friends Aren't

There’s nothing quite like a night out on the town with friends to burn a hole in your pocketbook. In fact, hanging out with people - even a significant other - who aren’t trying to save money can put a serious damper on any budget you might have in place. But there are some great ways to maintain your savings plan while also enjoying the finer things! To see my ideas, read more.

It’s not a bad idea to let your friends know that you’re trying to save money. You don’t have to break the news, but casually mention it when you talk to them so they won’t be surprised when you don’t shell out for a spa weekend.
Eating out can get expensive, fast, especially if it’s a group dinner. While you can always be the girl that comes along and just orders an iced tea, I think it’s much better to simply tell your friends that you’ll meet them afterwards for a drink.
Better yet, try hosting something at your house. If they want to do dinner, try a potluck-style meal. If they’re all about going to the movies, offer up your couch for a movie night - popcorn is cheap.
For whatever reason, nighttime activities always end up being more expensive than doing something during the day. Next time you skip the Friday night meet-up, try to plan a Saturday morning walk or Sunday afternoon picnic since both can be as cheap as you need them to be.
Don’t feel like you have to say no if your friends want to pay for something on behalf of you. Often if a friend knows you're grappling with money concerns, she’ll be happy to pay your way just to enjoy your company. Obviously making a habit of this isn’t a great idea, but it really is OK to take her up on it once and a while.

It may get tricky, but stick to your budget! Keep your mind on the bigger picture and use your growing savings account as a reminder of what your sacrifices are accomplishing.

Three Things You Need to Know About Michigan and Florida

We're about to hear the end of the big Michigan/Florida do-the-delegates-count snafu - and they're showing the whole debate live now! I just know you're popping the popcorn and settling in to watch the whole shebang - here are three things to know while you watch the showdown.

The Role of Republicans in the Florida Trouble:

Were the Democrats sabotaged? Though Florida's Republican-controlled state legislature determined the date of the primary and Republican lawmakers did push vigorously for an early contest, it started with a Democrat. State Sen. Jeremy Ring introduced the legislation to reschedule the primary He said, "one thing you can be sure of," he said that Florida will be relevant during the primaries.” He's also said that he wasn't duped by anyone. Then the voting. Not one Democratic member of the state House voted against the measure, and hardly any opposition in the Senate.

Has Hillary Always Wanted the Votes Counted?

Not exactly. Clinton said in 2007 "it's clear that this election they're having [in Michigan] is not going to count for anything." A little bit later, her campaign manager said, "We believe Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina play a unique and special role in the nominating process. . . . and the DNC's rules and its calendar provide the necessary structure to respect and honor that role. Thus, we will . . . adhere to the DNC-approved nominating calendar."

Then on Jan. 25 (after Michigan and Florida) she said, "And so I will ask my Democratic convention delegates to support seating the delegations from Florida and Michigan."

What's Likely to Happen Today?

Probably not awarding the delegates according to the popular vote and seating all of them, like Clinton would like. The Rules and Bylaws Committee probably will not reverse the sanctions completely - that's a decision that would set a bad precedent for other states and start the primary season for the 2012 election, around tomorrow. The committee members "have expressed little interest in the option of seating all the delegates." They will probably follow the recommendation of DNC lawyers who say that the appropriate legal resolution would either be to allow half the number of delegates from each state into the convention, or let the full delegations attend with half a vote each. Obama will likely get a party favor of delegates from his missed Michigan contest.
