The new plan for US withdrawal from Iraq would have US troops out within three years, with withdrawals set to begin next Summer if it's agreed upon. But, these troops had their big homecoming this week.
Troops from the Homestead Air Reserve Base returned to Miami after a six-month deployment to Iraq.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation just released a list of 11 endangered sites chosen from almost 70 nominees. The list's goal is to protect significant buildings and locations. Of the approximately 200 places listed by the organization in the past 20 years, only six have been lost.

When I ran across these jaw-droppingly striking pictures, I couldn't believe I'd never heard of the Kalash Tribe — and I wanted to rectify that immediately. The tribe lives nestled in the North-Western Province of Pakistan. Protected by the Hindu Kush mountain range lives this culture of people Muslims call Kafirs or “infidels”.

Pictures are starting to come out of Myanmar following the cyclone though media is discouraged. One CNN reporter remaining anonymous says, "They have no drinking water whatsoever. When you don't have drinking water and you are forced to drink out of puddles and drinking reservoirs contaminated by dead bodies...

For the raver who celebrates Easter! Sure, Katie Sugar looked longingly at this candy when I walked by, but this toy (for ages five and up) isn't designed for paci-aged kids.
Perhaps this light-up lollipop/pacifier has the best intentions, but I can't shake my mental image of some clubber kid whiling away his Sunday ecstasy roll by sucking on the Easter bunny's head.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin held a news conference about the situation in Northern Ireland yesterday at the State Department. Martin is in town for St. Patrick's Day celebrations.

Three women posed for a picture at the Hofbraeuhaus beer tent today in Munich, Germany to celebrate Oktoberfest, the world's largest fair. Each year, about six million people show up to the 16-day beer festival that happens in late September and early October. Give them beer (and breasts) and they will come!

If you were wondering what the Pope was doing driving around Sydney in the Pope mobile, his Holiness is in town for World Youth Day. The world's largest youth event, organized by the Catholic Church, has brought almost 125,000 international visitors to Sydney, more than the 2000 Olympics!
Every two or three years the Pope invites young pilgrims to celebrate their faith's international counterparts.
