Pet Peeves: How Weird Can Presidents Get With Pets?

Sounds worse than it is! But, seriously, people are crazy with their pets. Just the other day I saw a woman getting fro-yo for her dog because "he was feeling down." Anyway! Since the Obamas are getting their new Portuguese water dog tomorrow, we should prepare to see the first dog with his own Secret Service name like Rollick along with his own white house. Israeli City Using DNA to Stop Doggie-Dropping Disasters

In an effort to clean up the neighborhood, the city government of Petah Tikva, Israel has created a dog-DNA database. In exchange for registering their pooches' DNA with the city vet, residents will be eligible for pet-food coupons and dog toys if they place doggie doo-doo in marked bins. But - if a pooch's poop is found on the street, the registered owner will get a ticket.

Officials say not only will this reduce the number of "land mines" around the city, but it could allow vets to research genetic disease in dogs and help the pound ID strays. Should city governments go further and require pet owners to register doggie DNA, or would this be legislating good manners?

Where Do You Stand? Having Sex With Your Pet in the Room

I don't have a pet, so I never thought about this until I was dogsitting for my friend. I know it's bizarre, but I thought to myself, "Wow, I wonder if she has sex with her pooch in the room?" It totally reminded me of that scene in Best in Show, where that couple takes their dog to a therapist because Beatrice, their Weimaraner, started showing signs of depression after seeing her owners having sex. Ha! Although I don't think it affects the animal much, I can only assume that some people get pretty weirded out about it. Are you? What do you think about having sex while your pet is in the room?

I’m a total animal lover, but nothing does me in quite like an adorable, floppy puppy. So when I see a man with a dog, I can’t help but find myself staring. Should Media Play Video of Marine Throwing Puppy Off Cliff?

If you haven't seen it already, you may not want to. I'm talking about the video of a US Marine apparently hurling a small, whimpering puppy off the side of a cliff. I just happened to witness this while watching my morning news.

Marine officials are calling the video, which has been taken off YouTube, "shocking and deplorable" and an investigation has been launched. Meanwhile, the alleged puppy thrower and his family have been receiving death threats. Comments on YouTube identified the man, in what is being called "cyber-vigilantism."

Group Therapy: How do I learn to love little dogs?

My boyfriend and I were talking last night, and I alluded to the fact that when we move in together (which isn't in the near future) I would like to get a kitten. He said great! he likes cats, and dogs too. And then we were like, let's get a golden retriever, and I said, well, we need to live somewhere he can run around, so he said lets get a "toy" dog. (I am not mentioning what kind so that no one knows who i am.)

I am sorry if this upsets anyone, but, i don't like little dogs...whether it is Pomeranian, shiatsu, Maltese, whatever, i think they have been bred stupid. Whenever i am around the one his family has now, it jumps on my legs and scratches me, and then when i sit it jumps in my lap and tries to lick my face. and for the most part, little dogs that i have house sat for etc, are dirty...the whole house smells like dog, etc, and they have this completely empty look in their eyes. like, they don't get it. and none of them are trained. I H-A-T-E dog kisses near my mouth. Whenever i see dogs kiss people on the mouth, it makes me nauseous and i get one of those disgusted shivers. other than that, i love dogs, esp golden retrievers and golden doodles. however, i want to learn to love his favorite kind of dog, so that our whole family will mesh. any suggestions?

Group Therapy: How can I help my sister cope?

Today, My sister's Golden Retriever was hit by a car, and died of head injuries. The dog did not die instantly, but died like, 2 minutes later. Her finance` held their dog as she passed. My sister was heartbroken. This dog wasn't just a dog to them. She was like a baby to my sister. They had her trained to shake hands, and when they said "talk", she would bark. She was the smartest, sweetest, most lovable dog to ever walk this earth. She never went by the road until today. I was just needing advice on how to help my sister cope. Please help.
