Using Ms. instead of Miss or Mrs. has become the norm in business. I've always thought we use it not only because we don't know a woman's marriage status, but also because ultimately it doesn't matter.

Women around the world face dangerous systemic discrimination. Unequal access to necessities like medical care and food, in addition to violence and neglect, has contributed to the disappearance of as many as 100 million women in the developing world.
One woman sitting behind her computer screen in the so-called first world might not be able to do anything to reverse embedded inequality, but being aware of the plight of women might be the first step.

High-functioning alcoholics are often considered a hidden class of addict, but I've met more than a few of them in my life. So has Sarah Allen Benton, a recovering high-functioning alcoholic who just released a book about the disease: Understanding the High-Functioning Alcoholic.

I recently went to a bar to celebrate a co-worker's birthday. While I was there, I met someone unaffiliated with work. We spoke all night over drinks and then before the bar closed, he kissed me and then proposed three options: one) his place, two) my place, and three) dinner sometime next week.

Dear Sugar,
Last year I went to visit one of my best friends in Chicago. Before I had arrived, she mentioned that she cut her hair really short. A few years ago when I did the same thing, she would tease me about it, so the night I arrived, in joking, I said something about her new "boy" do.

My boyfriend and I have been seeing each other for a year and a half — long distance. We've exchanged "I love you"s and he says he wants to spent the rest of his life with me, but I'm afraid he's all talk.
I am currently on a break from grad school, heading back in a month, while he's in between jobs with some prestigious interviews lined up, looking to relocate.
