It's that time again, believe it or not, for my monthly Must Haves! For November, it's all about embracing the change of seasons and preparing for the holidays, so check out what I've picked out for you!

Treat yourself to nice bed linens. Now that it's cold outside, spend a little extra time in bed with some luxurious Italian 1000-Thread-Count Sateen Sheets.

School For Aspiring Cougars - Hilarious or Horrifying?

Mark your calendars, cougar-wannabes! November 6 is your big day. Before the California Cougar Convention takes place at the Beverly Hills Crowne Plaza Hotel, cougar expert Lucia (no last name?) will host a cougar tutorial. The Cougar School must have a very easy learning curve, because this "Queen of the Cougar Jungle" Lucia teaches the class at 6:30 - and then gives the keynote address at 8 p.m.!

I imagine her instruction will go something like this: "Wear sexy clothes, make it known you're sexually available, and go to a bar where cubs are." I mean - could it be any more difficult than that?

Five Things John McCain Needs to Do to Get Elected President

Though John McCain has just pulled ahead among that all important demographic - pet owners - when it comes down to the whole shebang, November's enchilada, it's neck-and-neck. According to Gallup, Obama is polling at 46 percent, and McCain at 44 percent.

One Republican columnist over at Politico has figured out what McCain needs to do to tip the scales toward victory this fall. Though Santa he ain't, here are the five things McCain has to make a list of and check twice in order to beat Barack Obama:

He should take a page from the Republican party’s founder: Abraham Lincoln. He believed that less government worked best and if McCain presses this point, the delineation between Obama and himself will give Americans a clear choice.
McCain must talk to our enemies. As another great Republican, Teddy Roosevelt said, “Speak softly and carry a big stick,” McCain must explain to Americans that he is willing to talk to Iran, North Korea or Cuba.
House cleaning. (Isn't this on everyone's to-do list?) McCain needs to rid the GOP of age-old party hacks who are still fighting the battles of the 80s. Juice up some new blood with new ideas.

Leave the girl out of it! Attacking Michelle Obama when the country is in economic straits and tensions are mounting in the Middle East is petty and will gain zero points with the public
If the Republicans want to win nationally they must reach out to minorities. The GOP knows it can not sustain itself simply on the core of white Southern voters. If he wants to win this election, he’s going to have to win black and Latino voters and drop Lee Atwater’s strategy of division.

You Asked: Is Our Marriage Over?

Dear Sugar,

Help! I have been with my husband for 13 years and will be married 11 in November. To make this as short as possible, I've lived in a sexless, loveless relationship for 12 years. Last November I met someone wonderful and decided to tell my husband I was done. We separated for four months and I stopped seeing my "friend" for a while to get my head together. My husband immersed himself in therapy and told me he could not lose me, that he loved me and would do whatever had to be done to keep us together. I moved back home in May but I still don't feel passion toward him. I love him, but am still very hurt and angry. He supposedly suffers from intimacy issues, fear of failure, etc., and although he is working very hard to be in my heart, our sex life is not good, in fact, it's horrible. He makes no effort to please me at all. After not having any for months, he accused me the other day of not wanting him.

I know he loves me in his very own way, but I am not sure I can ever be happy with this man. So many people tell me what a great guy he is and that I should stay with him. He is a great provider and very good in other ways so my question is do I work my butt off to save my marriage, or call it a day? I need some advice please. - Unhappy Helena

Dear Unhappy Helena,

In order for this marriage to work, you need to make sure both of your needs are being met, and from what you're telling me, you two have a lot more work to do. I'm glad to hear that your husband is in therapy, but have you thought about going to therapy together? Something tells me that you aren't talking to your husband about what you need to be happy so getting everything out on the table could do wonders for your relationship. Sex is also a major component to any relationship so if spicing things up in the bedroom isn't helping, you might want to consider seeing a sex therapist.

Staying in an unhappy relationship, even though he's a good provider and loves you in his own way, will only leave you feeling sad and alone if you're still having doubts. You've been with this man for 13 years so you owe it to yourself and your relationship to give your marriage a fighting chance, but if you're forcing something that's just no longer there, your relationship could have just run its course. Keeping the lines of communication open is a must so voice your concerns as often as they need to be addressed. While all relationships take work, yours shouldn't be more work than play. Don't Take No For an Answer: Protecting Against Election Theft

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Greg Palast wrote in the Huffington Post yesterday, that while Republicans had the media searching for links between Barack Obama and ACORN, RNC operatives were completing one of the most massive voter suppression and purging efforts in US history. RFK, Jr.'s piece asserts that none of ACORN's bad registration signatures will impact the election; but an obstacle course of barriers for November 4 voters, including purging legitimate voters from the list, and creating mayhem and long lines at the polls, has been created on behalf of Republicans.

In its story about what might go wrong on Election Day, Time Magazine offers advice of what you can do to make sure your vote counts. Tips include: contacting your local registrar or going to canivote.org to verify your info; making sure you know your polling location and ID requirements; not taking no for an answer. If you get turned away, request an emergency paper ballot or cast a provisional ballot if you must. You can also call 866-OUR-VOTE if you have an issue.

Here's to hoping both sides play fair on Election Day!

Play Pundit: Does Georgia Conflict Help Obama or McCain?

During the presidential campaign season, it seems like almost everything could have an impact on the election. While leaders assess the long-term impact of the conflict in Georgia, pundits want to know right now how the complex event will impact the election in November. So far, the media has chalked up Russia's aggression as an advantage for John McCain.

McCain has stressed his perceived edge in foreign policy experience, using stronger language against Russia than President Bush, and maintaining that the US must reevaluate relations with Russia. While Obama fully condemned Russia's actions, he also called for restraint from both Russia and Georgia.

As shown in the video above, the media thinks McCain's stiff approach to diplomacy will come out looking better thanks to the conflict in Georgia. Do you agree?

So What Happens Now? The Election Keeps Keepin' On. . . .

I wonder if anyone is as exhausted as CBS must be this morning after having called Indiana so early, and then having to wait - alone- as Hillary's lead shrunk. They must have been sweating it to say the least. But when the counting was done, Hillary indeed took Indiana by a thin, two-point margin. Obama won North Carolina, 56 percent to Hillary's 42.

Here's what I'm wondering about this morning. Though the New York Times is calling Obama's win in North Carolina "decisive," it's far from big enough to call off the race altogether (Hillary is moving on to West Virginia this morning) and yes, winning by 14 points is sizeable, though it's hardly overwhelming? Earning 42 percent of the vote doesn't make you a Ron-Paul-five-percenter if you know what I mean. Oh, I'm just warming up, read more.

And I can't help but drudge up the specter of the general election. (Oh yeah! That! I'd almost forgotten that's what we're working toward.) Obama called his win in North Carolina a win in a "big state." Yup, that's true - a big red state. Now math isn't my friend, and I know that Hillary faces some, um, numerical opposition, but so does Obama! The Times is calculating that Obama picked up 64 delegates yesterday to Hillary's 60. That's not so many. There were more delegates at stake in Guam on Saturday! (OK, the same amount, but the point is, small.) The totals now: Obama, 1799; Hillary, 1662. Total difference=137. In that margin, therein lies the will of the people?

And there are a million exit poll demographic numbers, but what about this: In Indiana, Hillary bested Obama among both rural voters (68 percent to 32 percent) and suburban voters (53 percent to 47 percent). There are a lot of those folks voting come November.

Yes, the big story this morning is Hillary's announcement that she's lent herself $6.4 million over the past month, making her the biggest wallet reacher since Mitt Romney, but how much of that money was needed just to combat the media drumbeat of her imminent doom? Is the 137 delegate margin more significant than I think? Was any of Hillary's success last night thanks to Republicans calling for spoiler votes? Should we all resign ourselves to ride it out? Isn't that what the Democratic Party's plan (with its proportional wins and superdelegates) all about? Isn't it just working exactly as they've planned (ahem, straight to a superdelegate brokered convention?) (OK, OK, sorry! But . . . um?) Let me know what you think.

You Asked: How Can I Lose Weight Before My Wedding?

Dear Sugar--

I recently was given the opportunity to explore other career options and have had lots of free time to focus on my fitness and nutrition. I've gotten really into it and set a goal of losing 15 pounds before my wedding date in November. I am 5'4" and when I started my routine/eating change I was 136. I'm down to 131, I work out six days a week...hiking, spinning, running, weight lifting, Pilates and yoga. Plus I'm keeping track of what I am eating. I eat six times a day small meals, lots of fruit, protein and veggies.

I use the website www.sparkpeople.com to track my eating and my workouts. The site gives me a caloric breakdown. According to the BMR I burn 1380 calories without doing any physical activity, so I've been burning an additional 500-800 calories a day plus only eating between 800-1200 calories. Why am I not losing weight??? I'm starting to get frustrated especially since I feel like I'm working really hard. Any
suggestions?

Dear Frustrated Bride-To-Be--

This is a question I'm sure many women can relate to - how to lose weight in a healthy way. First of all let me say that you should be proud of yourself for starting this plan and sticking to it. You've lost 5 lbs already, and that's awesome.

I'm sorry to say that losing weight is hard work, and it's a long journey. Since you are at a pretty healthy weight already, losing those extra 10 lbs is going to be a slow process. In order to lose 1 lb a week (which is a healthy goal), you need to either burn or omit 500 calories from your diet per day. A good way to do that is to burn 250 calories through exercise, and ditch 250 calories from your diet. You don't want to shock your body and drop your caloric intake dramatically though, because your body won't burn fat, it'll hold onto it. You must consume at least 1200 calories a day so your body doesn't think there's a food famine.

Another great tip is to stop eating 2 hours before you go to bed. It'll give your body a chance to digest, and then when morning comes, you'll be hungry for breakfast. Don't skip this important meal since it can help jump start your metabolism.

I see that you are doing a wide range of exercise, but you may want to stick to focusing on heart-pumping cardio. Jog, ride a bike or do the elliptical at the gym for 20-30 every day, and you'll tone up and burn calories. Another thing you should remember is that if you are building muscle with exercising, you'll be losing inches and not necessarily losing weight. Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat, but it is denser so it takes up less room. That means when you step on the scale, it may not reflect all your hard work. Look in the mirror though, I'm sure you're bound to notice a difference.

Getting married can be both an exciting and stressful time. Just keep taking good care of yourself, get enough sleep each night, continue eating healthy and exercising, and by November I'm sure you'll look toned and feel strong, confident, and beautiful on your special day.
