Conservative columnist David Brooks wrote an essay in the New York Times yesterday about how technology is ruining love and sex for the youngins.
Although Brooks reaches this conclusion based on the testimony of some horndogs who agreed to be "online sex diarists" for New York magazine (he admits it's a pretty unrepresentative demographic), Brooks nevertheless believes their stories tell us something fundamental about love in the age of technology: it's allowed people to treat potential sex partners (and it's significantly limited to this) as if they were products on eBay.
Once upon a time — in what we might think of as the "Happy Days era" — courtship was governed by a set of guardrails.

Who could say no to a craptastic film starring the Barbarian Brothers? Don't worry, I didn't know who they were either, but one look at this trailer and I had to find out. They were an "action/comedy film twin acting team that was famous mainly in the 1980s," according to their Wikipedia page, and "As of 2005 they are still occasionally in movies."

Pseudo-celeb Nicky Hilton and one of the creepy kids from sci-fi horror flick Village of the Damned. I'm Netflixing this one, man: "In the English village of Midwich, the blond-haired, glowing-eyed children of uncertain paternity prove to have frightening powers." Eekers!

When I was looking this movie up on IMDB, I accidentally typed in "Part 14," which isn't far from the truth. (How many freaking Friday the 13th movies were made, exactly?!) I can't say I've seen part IV, but if it's as good as this dancing scene here with cute freak Crispin Glover, I may have to put it on my Netflix queue. I love me the freaks!

Back before he governated the state of California, Arnold starred in B-movie gems like Hercules in New York. If you can't figure it out from the title, it's a classic coming-of-age story that combines Greek mythology and professional wrestling. In this clip, Herc takes on a man in a bear suit.

I thought the soundtrack to this was Bjork, until I read the YouTube commentary. It's an electronic piece called "Alice," 90 percent of which is composed using sounds from Disney's Alice in Wonderland. If you want to download it, click here.

It's been a while since I've Netflixed Gandhi, but this story snagged my attention: The caste system in India is still alive and well. Studies have shown that shunning members of society and labeling them "untouchables" — behaviors like banning them from temples and bathing areas, refusing to share drinking glasses or barbers with those of the lowest class — are still very common. In fact, 45 different forms of "untouchability" are still being carried out by the upper caste of Hindus on the Dalits.

I was sad to hear that Peter Boyle died Tuesday. One of my favorite movies ever is the ultra-silly and hilarious Young Frankenstein. Directed by Mel Brooks and starring Gene Wilder, the film wouldn't be the classic it is today without Boyle's Frankenstein, the straight man amidst the cast of loonies.

Dear Sugar
My boyfriend and I date long distance. He's coming in next weekend and the forecast is calling for rain. I can't wait to snuggle up to him all weekend.
