My Little Pony Trotting Back to TV

The beloved '80s toy turned movie turned TV show, My Little Pony, is getting resurrected with a series set to air on the new Discovery-Hasbro kids channel.

Makes sense since My Little Pony is a Hasbro creation, but I have mixed feelings over this news. I was nutty for the toys growing up - I even had a tiny plastic pony tent that I used to pitch in my living room. And while I'm glad to see an old familiar friend make a comeback, I hope they don't turn it into some newfangled 2.0 version meant to look more slick, like so many other cartoons nowadays. Don't mess with a classic, people!

This AP story first caught my eye because the headline is so funny - especially with the image of a My Little Pony: "Sunshine, rainbows, James Spader?"

Apparently, cast members of Boston Legal (does this TV show choice seems random to you, too?) will design My Little Ponies to be auctioned off for the Give Kids The World charity "as part of a celebration of the toy's 25th anniversary." Spader and his costars on the show, Candice Bergen and William Shatner will contribute designs, along with a smattering of others: LeAnn Rimes, Deborah Gibson (another iconic presence from my youth!), actor Danny Aiello, Spanish illustrator Catalina Estrada, "New York graffiti artist-turned-designer Claw Money and Japanese manga artist Junko Mizuno." The AP goes on to explain My Little Ponies:

The pastel-colored ponies - with names like Rainbow Dash and Daybreak - usually sport decorations on their hind quarters, often of hearts, balloons or stars. The celebrities and artists were given blank, 18-inch versions of the usually 4-inch-tall ponies to decorate, Hasbro spokesman Dan Benkwitt said.

Christian Cota just launched a limited-edition boot collection for Aldo, showing off gorgeous mountain- and hiking-inspired pieces that will surely add that perfect rustic, yet luxe, touch to your Fall ensembles. "I really wanted to bring in all of the utilitarian elements, like the shin guards that can actually come on and off," said Cota. "I also wanted the color to be really rich, like this crimson. There was also a Tibetan influence as well. . . . It's the first time I decided to show very little stilettos [in my Fall runway show]. Christian Cota: It's all about how a woman feels when she wears the shoe. With the flats boots I designed, the models who wore them on the runway had a cooler confidence; they walked stronger and sexier. This season, sexy is about strength and toughness.

FS: Do you have a favorite style?
CC: I love the red [Laremont] pair, because it really catches my attention.

FS: What are three shoe styles every woman must own?
CC: A great pair of classic pumps, flat boots, and a really crazy pair of fashion-forward shoes, like ones with heavily constructed details, interesting materials, or amazing heels.

Rachel Roy Is a Low-Key Beauty

When it comes to famous people, it's rare that I fall into the "we'd totally be friends" delusion. But designer Rachel Roy seems so down-to-earth that it's easy to imagine listening to The xx with her. Don't take my word for it, though. We just got word of her summery beauty favorites, and they're charmingly low-key. Instead of wearing makeup to the beach, she sports strawberry Lip Smacker and Clarins spray SPF 50. And rather than spend an hour with a manicurist, she uses Sally Hansen Salon Effects (like us!). Plus, she's crafty: she blends Jo Malone Red Roses and Chanel No.5 lotions together for a customized scent. "I usually wear my hair down with little maintenance or pull it back in a pony," she writes, adding that she's "obsessed" with KeSARI Indian Oil Hair Serum. (Me too.) See what I mean? While I love all of the photos from the Kate Spade bridal campaign, my favorite is this shot from the bridal shower. The moment captured here is quite sweet, but it's the room itself that really captivates me.

Let's start with the sofa, a Gustavian-look sofa with gorgeous green silk cushions. I discovered a similar look in the '40s-era Fritz Henningsen 3-Seat Mahogany Sofa ($6,500). Since a major focal point in this room is the gallery wall, art is all important for completing this look. I found an equine-themed painting from Jennifer Davis that embraces Kate Spade's vibrant use of color: Little Pony ($450) is an original acrylic/graphite painting on hardboard with a simple pine frame, which will arrive at your door ready to hang.
