Australia's Macquerie Dictionary recently named "muffin top" their word of the year. As most of you know, muffin top refers to the roll of fat that flows over of the top of low-cut or too-tight jeans. It beat out the American Dialect Society's nomination of "whale tail," which names the part of thong underwear that shows over-the-waistband of low-cut (you again?!) pants.

Aside from the fact that word meisters seem to be getting a little too overheated about women's midriffs and backsides . . . what do you think is the worse fashion infraction?

A Few Ways To Lose Your Muffin Top

Dear Sugar
I am 26, 5'0, 110 lbs. I've just recently started working out 4-5 times a week beginning with a 3 mile walk followed by an hour of abs, arms and legs. For the past two years I've been going through my "honeymoon" stage so I gained 10 pounds. I lost the 10 pounds naturally by cutting back on my snacking and sodas. The one area that I cannot seem to define is my lower abdomen; everything else seems to be tightening except for that area. What gives? I haven't had any children so why do I have a "momma pouch or a muffin top that rolls over my pants "? Can you recommend any exercises that I can do at home. I don't have the budget to hire a personal trainer. Trouble Spot Dot

Dear Trouble Spot Dot
I am impressed with your discipline and dedication to exercising. While at the gym, grab a trainer and ask them to show you a few more ab exercises. That's what they are there for and don't think there is a charge for it. Everyone has that 1 area on their body where it's hard to lose weight. Your 3 mile walk is great, but try running for at least half. Cardio may be the missing element in your work out routine since that is really what's going to burn the fat. The good news for you is that lower abdominals are easy to isolate. Try these exercises: Sit with your feet on the floor and your legs bent so that when you lean back you use your lower abs to keep you stable. Rock your arms from side to side (touching either side of the ground by your waist) while holding a 10 lb medicine ball. Work your way up to 3 reps of 30. You can also try lying flat on your back and putting your legs straight up the air at a 90 degree angle. Use your lower abs to lift your butt up and down. Lastly sit in the middle of one of those big balls. Traditional sit ups are harder to do this way. Try doing 15 at a time and do as many reps as you can. When you are finished, don't forget to work out your lower back. By focusing on your abs, you are undoubtedly going to strain your lower back, so it's important to build up both of these muscles simultaneously. Lie on the floor facing the ground and reach your arms and legs out (as though you were doing the dead man's float). Gently raise your head and arms for 2 counts, hold for 2 counts, and then lower. Keep your head and neck down. Do 3 reps of 25.

Sudanese Woman Who Wore Pants Challenges Punishment

Flogging women for wearing unacceptable clothes? What century are we in again?

Lubna Ahmed Hussein, a Sudanese journalist who also works in the media department of the UN Mission in Sudan, was arrested along with 13 other women at a popular cafe for wearing "indecent clothes."

Was she going commando in a miniskirt? Was her muffin top hanging over lowrise jeans? Nope. She was wearing "trousers" and now faces flogging - 40 lashes. She and two other women asked for a lawyer. The other women (some non-Muslim) weren't so lucky: they received 10 lashes and a fine.

Arrested July 3 and now standing trial (in the same trousers that got her arrested!), Lubna claims she did nothing wrong under the strict Sharia or Islamic religious law, which has been in place in Sudan since 1989. She has immunity due to her association with the UN, but Lubna has decided to waive this in order to challenge the law.

"I want to change this law," Lubna told the BBC, "because hitting is not human, and also it does not match with Sharia law." Court has been adjourned until August 4 so that she can quit her UN job.

Whale-Tail Be Gone!

A couple of annoyed mothers want to do away with whale tail. Amen, sisters! They invented something called the "Hip-T"- a tube top for the midsection. Not only does it keep that obnoxious whale tail from making a show of itself, but it also prevents the emergence of the dreaded muffin top. If you ask me, women should just start buying clothes that fit them properly. Until that happens, this will do.

Moob alert! If you plan to press play on the vid below, equip yourself with a pair of sunglasses and/or a blindfold now. Moob man's muffin top hasn't seen the light of the day in a half decade - so why would he go on a shirt strike now? It beats me, but I do think a refrigerator and a box of magnets would do wonders for his social life.

Group Therapy: Where are you Henry?

I admit I've been taken into watching the "Ugly Betty" episodes. They are lovely and entertaining. But I cannot help but swoon miserably over the slightly dorkish yet brilliant Henry. Cute nerd behind even cuter glasses. With a heart of gold best of all.

Now how is it - that (yes she's fictional... so...?) Betty can attract such a catch - while I have not even had a single boyfriend - let alone a guy ask me to prom. I am 18 and, you guessed it, single. I hope this doesn't come off superficial - but I used to not give it much thought - and focused more on my studies (nevertheless I'm not so in the dark about fashion as our dearest Betty is) But as more and my friends become entangled in wild and passionate relationships - some sporadic, some long term and long distance. I begin to wonder - what's wrong with me? We live in a superficial world I admit - and that is EXTREMELY apparent in high school. But it's not that I'm hideously ugly (of course I don't believe anyone really is...) or overweight [I admit I might not be in the best running shape ever, but I don't have a beer gut and model a muffin top!!]

I saw all kinds of girls in my grade get asked to prom - the b*tchy ones, generally overweight ones, covered in acne ones, ones that always look like they have dung up their nose when they are talking to you, so where is real life Henry damn it!!

I am always called pretty and gorgeous by my friends and their family and random people I meet... it's just I don't understand - I'm not a b*tch. I'm open and understanding. I'm smart and healthy. I'm loyal and a good friend. I'm not stuck up or mean. I guess maybe it's not who I am but just where I am. I just haven't met as many people for there to be anything to happen. But when will it? I mean I'm obviously not looking for a one night fling - but value an intelligence in a relationship.

I just don't know why over the years - my actions with the opposite sex have been ..."a lack thereof" I mean I have TONS of guy friends - and I get along well with everyone, being a "flaming" extrovert according to a personality test - and I'm not goth, or creepy.

I go to a prep school - and generally everyone is from a well to do family. And I share the same ideals as most people - but you don't find me every night passed out in someone's parent's lake house like my fellow class mates. I just can't help but feel sad or "not good enough. Any advice from fellow ladies out there - and maybe fellas too would really help.
